JUST BEFORE NOON on Monday, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio stood on the sidelines of a soccer tournament eating elote. De Blasio, who dropped out of the presidential race in September, had endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders for president the Friday before and spent the holiday weekend stumping for him in Nevada, stopping by the small tournament at a Las Vegas high school to test out a few Spanish phrases on the players.
One of many events dubbed Unidos con Bernie, the campaign-organized tournament was held on the the east side of the city, home to the largest Latino population in the state and the campaigns first Nevada field office.
To conclude the Presidents Day festivities which featured tacos, paletas, and a trophy for the champions campaign staff and volunteers drove the few dozen young participants to nearby early caucus sites.
Danny Parra, a 19-year-old student who played in the tournament, told The Intercept that hes voting for Sanders specifically because of the campaigns consistent outreach. He added that he doesnt really follow politics, but became interested in Sanders because he was always seeing the campaigns little stands on his community college campus.

(29,274 posts)Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has received more than four times the amount of campaign contributions from Latinos than any other candidate in the Democratic presidential primary.
According to a study published Thursday by the technology company Plus 3, Sanders has received more than $8.2 million from Latinos as of the last Federal Election Commission filing deadline. Thats $6 million more than Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who received about $2 million each from Latinos. Former Vice President Joe Biden received about $1.4 million and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) received about $319,000.

(21,646 posts)The Democratic Partys decadeslong failure to activate Latino voters has created a self-feeding cycle of disengagement: Candidates and campaigns dont expect them to vote so they dont bother asking them to, or at least not on the scale necessary for significant mobilization. Latino voters, poised to be the largest nonwhite eligible voting bloc in 2020, are crucial to winning the presidency and have been playing a key role in Sanderss rise.

(12,509 posts)it is likely Trump will appoint hispanic hating Judge Jeanine Pirro as a SCOTUS justice. Oh, and tell them about all the down ballot losses too if they go for Bernie.
A 79 year old pipe dreaming heart attack victim with no accomplishments in government office is not what will beat Trump. Wake the F up everybody.
