Democratic Primaries

a 78 year old who had a heart attack four months ago. He turns off many Independents calling himself a Socialist. He will kick 160 million off their private health plan (including Obamacare). Many African-Americans are not for him and don't like the Socialist idea either.

(13,059 posts)is older than dirt. And I'm one of the oldies but goodies myself. Bernie's support on average skews much younger. And after all, younger people are the future of our country. Any time we get a DU poll the anti-Bernie votes usually outpace the Bernie votes by about two to one. But most national polls are now showing Bernie with a double digit lead over his next closest rival. That just shows the disconnect between DU and the party as a whole. So that's why I take all of the crap about Bernie I read at DU with a grain of salt.

(22,757 posts)Democrats aren't anti-Bernie... were merely anti-trump and believe Bernie can't beat him... Bernie poll numbers aren't much above 30% (even with the 50%+ backing of younger people)
nationwide he appears to be a point or two above trump at this time but that does not account for the swing states which are crucial and common belief amongst those (other than the Bernie base) that look at these things closely
a Bernie nominee would cost us House and Senate seats
if you look at next closest rival as anybody but Bernie, you get a clearer picture... hey, I like Bernie... his demeaner is off-putting but he's been a good Senator for us and we here in Vermont keep electing him... but even in this special little liberal state we cannot implement the policies he advocates
I take everything with a grain of salt and research and study when I need... what I see is that the best way to get to health coverage for everyone, seriously address climate change, make sure women's rights are not taken back, bring some sense of civility back into our lives and get things done is to make sure we keep the House, take the Senate and chose a nominee who will keep the Democrats and bring in all those disgusted with trump... yeah, I get it, Bernie inspires people, especially younger people and we all love his ideas (well most of us) but trump has changed this Country and we have been taken so far back by him that we are walking a fine line here
us older than dirt people are pragmatic because we know history, we know what is possible... we live in HOPE but fight in the real world...

(16,685 posts)Is a losing proposition. There were many, many people who claimed Republicans nominating Trump would guarantee us a win in 2016. I personally know someone who thought Trump would add 3 to 5 percentage points to Democrats in legislative races. The opposite happened.

(6,283 posts).... of course I will vote for him, even though I believe it will be an exercise in futility. As far as running against trump, let's look at the battleground states that will decide the GE. Joe Biden beats trump by a country mile. The rest of the field barely register on the positive side. Bottom line?
There are two united efforts to get Trump re-elected. One is based upon hatred, racism, misogyny, greed, and willful ignorance. The other one is based upon a lack of common sense and logic.
