Biden Accuser Lucy Flores Rips Ex-VP For Joking About Controversy: Its Clear He Hasnt Reflected at Allby Ken Meyer | Apr 5th, 2019, 2:03 pm
Former Nevada lawmaker Lucy Flores is bashing Joe Biden for not being more introspective about the allegations she and others have brought forth about his behavior over the years.
Link to tweet
Flores was the first of several women whove spoken out in recent days to claim Biden was physically inappropriate with them. These allegations loom over Bidens possible run for president in 2020, but some political observers are defending the ex-veep by noting his affectionate nature and questioning the seriousness of the accusations against him.
Biden addressed the allegations against him several times in the last few days, acknowledging those who feel wronged by him and saying hell be more mindful of personal space from now on. He cracked jokes about the controversy during a speech he gave today, and then told reporters Im sorry I didnt understand more, but Im not sorry for any of my intentions

(16,954 posts)part of the reason I dont believe her in particular is because of the picture with Biden and Longoria at the same event.
Biden was whispering something in Longorias ear and was close to her hair. No one saw or photographed Biden and Flores in the same way although she claims it happened. I bet Flores was looking at that picture thinking she could use that as cover to spin her story since it showed Biden close to Longorias hair so no one would question her own story of Biden and her hair -I.e, opportunist . Official event photographers, and not one person saw or photographed what she claims.
You are right, she is no Longoria.

(12,344 posts)I can understand why Flores doesn't like it. But then Trump weaponized it, so now it is no longer about her. It is about how not to make "But his hands!" a Trump applause line for 2020. And one very good way is to joke about it. If Biden laugh's off or otherwise deflects Trump's attacks, he wins.

(10,832 posts)I only heard Joe Biden mention the controversy once when he put his arm around one of the kids he invited on stage. In typical Biden fashion he said (with a grin) something to the effect: 'And I asked his permission before getting into his space.' The crowd laughed at that.
If Flores is incensed about this it only underscores what I said before: Nothing Joe Biden does, light-hearted or not, is going to work for Flores. She did not accept his video comments which the majority of viewers felt were genuine and sincere. And so this becomes another tempest in a teapot because as far as she's concerned he didn't fully apologize.
There's no winning here. Time to move on.

(10,832 posts)can flip Pennsylvania, that Trump is obsessed with that fact. The Trumpster went into a rage after listening to Biden's speech to the Electrical Union, not because of Biden's quip on hugs or personal space but because he's afraid the man is stealing his thunder with the unions.
Of course, this isn't the sort of PR Biden needs but it's what he has at the moment. As far as I'm concerned regardless of what the talking heads screech about, the vast majority of Democrats are interested in wiping the floor with Trump and his enablers. Electability is everything in 2020. As far as the meme du jour? The one thing we know that tomorrow it will be something else.
I think Biden can weather this controversy because no one has accused him of malicious intent, regardless of Flores and others moving the goal posts on what an apology constitutes. It's becoming noise at this point and sadly is diminishing the strength of the MeToo messaging with a bunch of nonsense.
But on this, you and I agree. It's on Joe Biden to handle this controversy effectively. Or not.
Time will tell.

(2,437 posts)Flores would be viewed as a hero and her word would be unquestioned gospel here. Every post would be about how the 7 accusations are "disqualifying" and he should drop out of the race. As far as I know, none of us who support Sanders/Warren have called for Biden to withdraw. Instead, we let the process play out and give Vice President Biden the time, space and respect to make his case.I would hope that the same restraint and respect would be shown to all of our Democratic candidates.
All of our candidates will be victims of oppo research. Let's stick together and support them when they need us the most. Examining their records and policy positions is welcomed but seizing on any negative report, whether it be true, false or ridiculous will only divide us. Let's not let that happen. We need to be unified to get that orange cancer out of the White House.

If some people, or the press want to take it in the worst possible way, so be it, but the crowd he was speaking to, sure didn't take it that way.
Lucy Flores, and the others who are/were offended by Biden's touching, speak for themselves. To presume they are speaking for all women is not a valid assumption, and Stephanie Carter said this quite clearly when Lucy Flores tried to characterize Charter's experience the same as hers:
"But her story is not mine," Carter said of Flores."
www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2019/04/01/stephanie-carter-defends-joe-biden/3329501002/
