Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumJoy Reid just mentioned the "sense of mourning" among most Democrats she knows,
over Sanders doing as well as he has. That they don't want the change in the party.

(92,422 posts)then we only have ourselves to blame for choosing such a weak candidate, and we can kiss the SC, and all progress made by the establishment Democrats from women's rights, workers rights, Civil Rights, the environment, etc etc etc which will take a long long time to restore

(92,422 posts)block for that matter. Bloomberg has insured that won't happen, and even more unlikely he will be the nominee.
I am under no false illusions, barring any extraordinary event, Bernie will be our nominee
Bernie will get my vote in the GE without hesitation. If for nothing else the SC is at stake
The claim has been made since President Obama that the party is too moderate, by Bernie and his supporters, and the only way to win elections is to nominate a candidate such as Bernie. I do not agree with that assessment, and believe for varios reasons, which I am not going to go into, that he is the weakest candidate out of all the candidates.
We will know in 7 months if that is the case. I hope i am wrong

(7,715 posts)Joe Biden has every chance in the world to win this, especially after the fact the BS waited a MONTH to let anyone know that the Russians were supporting him.
You do understand that, right?: Russians, Trump, etc, would love for BS to win. It won't happen since the plot by the Russians and Trump has been exposed.

(92,422 posts)cut into Joe's lead. Joe does not have every chance in the world to win the nomination, and that is primarily due to Bloomberg. In my view Bloomberg is essentially a spoiler, and what would have been a good outcome for Joe on Super Tuesday, is only going to be fair because of Bloomberg cutting into his support
Another billionare, Steyer, is also a spoiler, to a lesser degree, but he is also hurting Joe in South Carolina. While i think Biden will win South Carolina, unfortunately it wont be as much as the polls suggested earlier
It pains me to say this, but unless the poll numbers are wrong because of Bloombergs entrance into the primaries is going to make it very hard for Joe to get the nomination
In my view Bloomberg's entrance into the race has not only made it more likely that Bernie will be the nominee, and because of that in my opinion trump will get another four years
Boy do i hope i am wrong

(3,363 posts)That would seem to indicate he's not the weakest candidate.
Buttigieg has 4% minority support. No Dem can win with that number.
Biden has never won a state primary race in the 3 times he's ran for President. That doesn't exude electability.
Most union voters endorsed Bernie and he by far got the most union votes today. How is any other candidate going to claim they're the pro-worker candidate?
Bernie won the Hispanic vote by far. How are other candidates going to win states like Arizona or Nevada if they can't win the Hispanic vote?
Millions of new young voters are now registering to be able to vote. Bernie by far dominates the youth vote and it's the largest voting block in 2018. How is any other candidate going to bring out the typically apathetic youth voter?

I just don't see Sanders' politics appealing to voters. He's relatively untested, and the mean, no-holds-bar Donald Trump will eat him alive.

(92,422 posts)the more likely Bernie will be the nominee without any competition
It is too bad they cannot get together and decide to back one of the candidates in the Amy, Pete, Biden, Bloomberg block, and at least give those who represent the more moderate wing a voice, but that is unlikely, and Sanders most likely will be the nominee
Waiting to do this after Super Tuesday is too late. In fact with early voting it may be too late now

The reason i think the primaries are essentially over is because of Bloomberg, who I view as a spoiler, and has fragmented the moderate vote beyond recovery in time for the convention

(29,227 posts)It's that the PARTY won a huge victory in 2018...
And now we want to go forth with the message that "hey folks, what we said we wanted in 2018... never mind that, we got a NEW message for you and you all are going to LOVE it so vote for Bernie and AOC in 2020."
And a lot of us don't think that is going to play well in the swing states.
