Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIf Sen Sanders does get the nod.. the Democratic Party will vote for him
There has only been on candidate whose campaign leadership voted for a third party when that candidate did not win!!
All other assertions are a DISQUALIFICATION

(883 posts)That is why democrats lose. Running republicans as candidates and worried about republican votes. They will not vote for Warren by the way. I think Bloomberg is running because he is afraid Elizabeth will win.

(11,993 posts)...of the anti-establishment shake-things-up voters who went for Trump last time, not because they were so happy with Trump but because they saw him as closer to what they wanted than a mainstream establishment figure like Hillary. I think it is unclear as to which of these two groups are bigger... moderate non-Dems who would vote for a moderate Dem like Biden (but not Sanders), vs. non-mainstream types who would cross back to Sanders (but not Biden).

(12,447 posts)I myself, feel sluggish with Bernie...I have never missed an election! Always voted Democratic...always....This time, I find it extremely hard to find inspiration to vote., if Bernie is the nominee/candidate...I probably will...but doubt those who are not as invested as I have been will just...stay home....It is a realistic concern.

(9,535 posts)I saw it last night. Looks like he is trying to win disaffected Trump voters, the ones who may not be religious zealots or bigots, but who voted for Trump because factories closed, their rust belt jobs went away, or they're just strugglng in low wages jobs or unemployed.
That could be an effective strategy for him.
Ultra conservatives are not going to vote Dem if you ran the Pope, but pushing an economic message for the many who are not doing well in the Trump economy could be his best best if he is the nominee.

(43,311 posts)Catering to millennials with money and programs will alienate senior voters. He will have to say how he will pay for it, and voters will have to decide if they're ok with that, and judge if he can pass it through the Democratic Establishment in Congress.

(43,870 posts)Nixon, in '72, and Reagan, in '80, won A LOT of Democrats. A LOT of them. Along with Independents. People say the fear of another Trump term will motivate people to vote for Bernie. That's isn't a forgone conclusion. Some Democrats believe another Republican term is tolerable if it means getting a better option in 4 years.

(945 posts)We will all definitely vote blue no matter what. The problem is that a lot of democrats in Congress and state legislatures will have to campaign against Bernie to try and keep their seats. I would not be shocked if there were ads by democratic candidates saying they would NOT support the Sanders agenda.

(111,110 posts)At least, if history is any indication.
I am inclined to believe that the candidate with the most votes in the primaries will probably be our strongest nominee.
If Bernie is that nominee, I will have no qualms in supporting him. The industrial states will be interesting. If Bernie can win those, then that would be very encouraging. Nobody really expects him to win states like Alabama or Mississippi. But if he can win back Michigan, Wisconsin, and PA, he may not be as weak as some people may think.
The "socialist" label is just that. He cannot get anything passed as a "socialist" but he might be able to get stuff passed as a Democrat? That is the political reality, notwithstanding any of the labels. As I recall, Obama was called a "Socialist" also.
