DU Poll: Bloomberg vs. Sanders... the sequel!

Yes, this has been polled before, by me and by others. But it has not been polled since people had an opportunity to see Bloomberg at a debate. And it has not been polled since Sanders has demonstrated strength with PoC. So if Bloomberg may look a bit weaker than he did some weeks ago, and Sanders may be looking stronger, might that change people's preferences? So...

If your primary were to come down to Bloomberg or Sanders, who would you vote for?

Bloomberg' pocketbook?

The women he wronged will come forward. His money was gained by gaming the markets (legally, unfortunately) and there are recordings of him bashing democrats, not to mention his history of racial profiling.

This is the fellow who helped keep Lindsay Graham in the senate. His presentation is terrible and his answers almost always seem to equivocate.

It seems obvious some in Wall Street think Bloomberg might save their predatory ways, but democrats? He has a snowballs chance in Alabama in August.

Sanders did something particularly original, which was that he passed amendments that were exclusively progressive, advancing goals such as reducing poverty and helping the environment, and he was able to get bipartisan coalitions of Republicans who wanted to shrink government or hold it accountable and progressives who wanted to use it to empower Americans.

97. Interesting. So even here on DU, indeed, people do not always stick to lanes when switching.
Thu Feb 27, 2020, 09:23 PM
Feb 2020

A lot of people here have talked about how, if moderates drop out, that means more support for other moderates (and have even suggested that moderates need to drop out for this reason), but here's yet another example of people "changing lanes" when forced to choose a different candidate. You've got 15 people here who support moderates Biden/Amy/Pete who, if they had to choose between Sanders and the moderate Bloomberg because their candidates were no longer on the ballot, would switch lanes and support Sanders rather than Bloomberg.

As I've said before, more factors into second choices than just what lane someone is in. And since polls tell us that Sanders is the candidate with the highest favorables, and that more Dems are comfortable with his nomination than with anyone else's, it shouldn't be surprising to see people moving to him as the field winnows, even if their original choice was in a different lane. What's a bit surprising is to see it happen even on DU, where there is so much anti-Bernie vitriol.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Fri Feb 28, 2020, 09:36 AM
Feb 2020

...about maybe 60/40 between Bloomberg and Sanders, so still, there was a lot of lane changing. Biden is the only moderate whose support overwhelmingly stayed in his own lane.

At any rate, this was by no means a scientific poll, nor is DU really representative of the world as large (as clearly evidenced by Warren's lead here, for example). I just thought it was interesting, though.
