Democratic Primaries

Mike Bloomberg is preparing to aggressively target Sen. Bernie Sanders during Tuesday's primary debate in South Carolina -- an effort to dislodge the Democratic frontrunner and steady his own half-a-billion-dollar campaign before he first appears on primary ballots next week.
Bloomberg has opened up several lines of attack on the Vermont independent, knocking his record on gun control and recent praise for elements of the late Cuban dictator Fidel Castros communist regime.
"He needs to flip the argument and force Bernie on the defensive," Hank Sheinkopf, a Democratic consultant who has worked for and against Bloomberg in the past, told ABC News. "The more blood on the stage from others and not Bloomberg, the better hell be."
Bloomberg, along with former Vice President Joe Biden, has also criticized Sanders for comments about Castro.
On Monday, Sanders condemned Cubas "authoritarian" record, but also said "its unfair to simply say everything is bad," in an interview with CBS News "60 Minutes."

Everyone's been saying the primaries have gotten too nasty, but I think they haven't gotten nasty enough. I want all the dirty laundry about all the candidates to come out now, with ads reinforcing it, so that primary voters are armed with all the knowledge they need and it's all old news by November.

(32,640 posts)BS was talking about what he thinks Castro's revolution brought to Cuba in 1959.
President Obama was talking about the post 2014 strides that Cuba had made as part of the negotiated pre-conditions for normalizing US-Cuba relations. Cuba had to meet benchmarks during the gradual process of moving towards normalization.
You're welcome.

What's Bloomberg doing? In 2008 he didn't even endorse him and in 2012 he reluctantly did and then sneered behing the scenes about it.

(4,975 posts)Where are your taxes?
Where is your mandatory ethics disclosure?
Why do you have investments in fracking if you are a climate activist?
Why did the homeless population swell during your administration?
Why did you raise money for Rick Snyder six weeks after Flint MI's water was poisoned?
Why did you spend $12 million to help Republican Pat Toomey so Republicans could keep the Senate?
What did you mean in 2006 when you said John Bolton was doing a "great job" as UN ambassador and it was a "disgrace" for the Senate not to have confirmed him?
That's just to start . . .
These are all legitimate questions. If I wanted to stoop to the level of Bloomberg, I could also add:
Did you think it was appropriate in 1999 to say: "My daughter is tall and busty and blonde. We went to China together. And what's a 16-year-old going to do on a business trip? So I got her dates in every city in China."
How do you feel about your friend Jeffrey Epstein's conviction and death?
We know you honored Harvey Weinstein and he also thanked you for your support - do you want to address your relationship in the light of what he has now been convicted of?
Do you want to apologize for the many women who have brought sexual harrassment cases against you and your organization?
Again . . . just a start.

(4,975 posts)sister city arrangement with a city in Russia (can't remember the name right now but I know the program is still active in Burlington). He was invited with a group of delegates from Burlington to visit their sister city. The timing was right after he and Jane got married. So they joked and said they'd honeymoon in Russia since they couldn't take a honeymoon before the trip.
