Good luck to Joe and all the other candidates going forward into Super Tuesday on March 3rd.

(13,059 posts)If Joe wins SC by a big margin then of course that is a positive thing for his campaign. And it might give him some momentum going into Super Tuesday. But with polls showing Bernie leading big in California and trending up in Texas among other places, Joe might need more than just sold AA support.

(5,376 posts)Even the other southern states are not projected to be that high.
South Carolina is something of a special case.
But, it is very good for Joe to win there. He could use the bounce before Super Tuesday.

Scroll down to the chart that showed the racial composition of 2016 Democratic primary voters by state.
That clearly shows that SC has by far and away the highest % of the electorate in the primary being African Americans.
But I do notice that's not a complete list, so let me see if I can find numbers for Mississippi since you mentioned that state...
can't find much historically but this:
Well, I stand corrected. Apparently Mississippi at 71% was higher in 2016 then SC at 61% of the electorate being black primary voters.

(5,376 posts)that had a higher percentage of black residents in the 2016 primaries..
I don't know why this was true, but it was and is projected to be that way this year also.
You replied as I was editing. But thanks for pointing out Mississippi.
But take a look at the data from the Washington post for data on the demographics of the 2016 primary in general.
SC is at the extreme high end of African American % in the actual primary electorate, i.e. those people that actually voted.
In 2016, for example, SC had a higher % of it's actual primary voters be African Americans than many states that had a higher overall % of black residents.
That article also does an excellent job analyzing how black support might not be able to help Biden as much as it Did Hillary Clinto back in 2016.

(16,018 posts)Biden gets 19 delegates. Bernie gets 7 delegates. South Carolina has 52 delegates.
So complete total would be 34 delegates for Biden and 52 delegates for sanders leaving South Carolina if the percentages hold for both of them.
Hope my math is correct.

(12,265 posts)We need to be sure and get out the vote EVERYWHERE, especially states like SC with open primaries. The GOP is not being shy about their plan to have people switch parties for the day and vote for BS because he would be easier to beat. The amount of people who will not vote for a Socialist is huge. We need to make sure we get out the vote in every single state.
