I never understand

When I hear a poster say well “my union went heavily for Bernie in the last primary, then went heavily for trump”

Uh what??? They are literally at opposite ends of the political spectrum. How could you vote for Bernie, then vote for union busting Trump? It makes absolutely zero sense. Help me understand how that is even possible?

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

But trump is a pure capitalist. If it cost him less money with free trade he would implement immediately. He and his administration is busting unions through new laws. It’s like smoking, looks cool but you’re paying someone to kill you.

Only 42% of those who voted for Bernie in the 2016 Primary selected him as their top choice in the 2020 Primary.

Bernie does a good job at populism during the primaries and so did Trump during the general. Union workers were attracted to their populist attributes. The policy was a distant second consideration.

One of the reasons we got trump is Sanders' and Warren's opposition to foreign trade and endless criticism of Obama's trade policies/agreements right up to the November 2016 election.

Sure there were other factors, but there were only 70K or so votes in key states that prevented Clinton from winning.

I wish she'd be doing better, as I think she would be more electable as a nominee - and a more effective president - than Bernie.

She could still turn this around - but the window has narrowed tremendously.

...things need to be shaken up, and that the working class always end up with the short end of the stick.

Sanders was the candidate that most truly represents this voter, but Trump also capitalized on this sentiment.

So when it was Hillary vs. Bernie, these voters picked Bernie.

Then when it was Hillary vs. Trump, these voters picked Trump, as the perceived better of the remaining options.

And if it becomes Trump vs. Bernie, Bernie can get them back. At least in theory.

to make Clinton unpalatable for a segment of the population. Is why it is possible.

People who lean toward religious authoritarianism were very open to the message that a woman who didn't "do it right" according to their preachers were particularly susceptible to the message. Also, for most of her time in public life, there was a constant drumbeat that she was dishonest and untrustworthy...not due to anything she did, but because someone saw something that scared them when she was much, much younger.

Marketing works and these union members (the Trump voters) are probably church goers and generally predisposed to dislike the idea of a woman in charge of anything but kids.
