Will Bernie Sanders Really Be A Drag On Down-Ballot Democrats?

RICHMOND, Va., and WASHINGTON ― When the final votes are tallied on Super Tuesday this week, Democrats in Congress are hoping that, among the many questions that could be answered, one of them will be this: Would Bernie Sanders really be a drag for Democrats down the ballot during the general election?

Several of the 14 states voting on Super Tuesday — California, Virginia, Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas — were key to Democrats flipping the House in 2018. Despite Vice President Joe Biden’s impressive win in South Carolina on Saturday, Sanders looks poised to win almost all of them. And the number of delegates Sanders picks up Tuesday could catapult the Vermont senator into an insurmountable lead in the Democratic primary.

And that’s beginning to worry some of the most vulnerable Democrats in Congress.

Rep. Juan Vargas (D-Calif.), who himself represents a safely Democratic district, told The Hill this week that some lawmakers are “very worried that if Bernie becomes the nominee, that it’ll be a disaster for them in their own districts.” Rep. Anthony Brown (D-Md.) told HuffPost on Friday that, if Sanders were the nominee, it would make it “much more difficult” for front-line Democrats.

Remember in 2016 when the Repugs said the same thing, they lost 6 seats in the house

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump could be a drag on some of the party’s down-ballot candidates in Kansas, the Kansas Republican Party’s executive director said Tuesday.

In my life I've worked on 2 presidential candidates, it will soon be 3

1) Nixon, when I was 10, because my dad had me put fliers in houses on one side of the street while he did the opposite side
2) Obama, phone banking because I believed it was very important for him to win.

Still hasn't materialized. There's little reason to believe it will.

In fact, Sanders made the claim again earlier this cycle, this time about Iowa young voters, and his statement was false:

I know there are many millennials who are currently refusing to vote for him here. They'd rather Trump than Bernie. It's the same story from district to district. Texas has been played once again and the voters fell for it, yet again. They wanted a Democrat until they were told Biden was dead in the water - local propaganda - and they believed it. They they looked to Steyer and Bloomberg who filled their airwaves and social media.

Once you remove Steyer and Bloomberg here in Texas Biden would be a strong leader... Bernie's numbers here are due to the horrifically large ad buys of Bloomberg and Steyer. They've diluted Biden's numbers and won't translate into GE votes for the Democratic candidates from what I've seen on paper locally.

I'm not feeling as optimistic as I did a few weeks ago about local gains. I hope I'm wrong, but it's looking less rosy.

Sadly,
Much less optimistic here in Texas.

primary today, I would vote for:
