Bill Kristol declares Joe Biden 'the simple answer' for beating Trump

Bill Kristol has a simple case for a Joe Biden presidency.

In a post for his conservative site The Bulwark posted Monday, the neoconservative turned President Trump critic carefully broke down the remaining 2020 Democrats for the so-called "normal American." If "you don't like demagogues of the right or the left," you want someone who can win the Democratic nomination, and you're voting in a Super Tuesday state, then you should opt for the former vice president, Kristol wrote.

Kristol opens his piece with his definition of a "normal American:" Essentially, you don't want the U.S. to have to choose "between [President] Donald Trump and [Vermont Independent Sen.] Bernie Sanders in November." That leaves you with a "complex" situation, but "the answer actually is simple," Kristol continues. Neither Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) nor Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) will be the nominee "despite the flashes of electoral strength each has shown," and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg isn't viable either. So "if you're inclined toward American constitutional democracy, the rule of law, and a free economic order," you'll vote for Biden, Kristol finishes.

I'll be so glad when this primary is over. All the mockery and sarcasm is hardly persuasive or inspiring. Do you win very many voters over with that attitude and tone? It is an awful look for a Democrat.

We can thank Kristol for bringing us Sarah Palin.

Harwood:

You discovered her on a Weekly Standard cruise, right?

Kristol:

She invited Fred Barnes and me and our families over to lunch at the governor's residence there. And we were impressed by her. And she was charming. And she was different — 42-year-old governor of Alaska, kind of an exotic state.

I had been originally for John McCain picking Joe Lieberman — a centrist play against Barack Obama. And they chose not to go that way. And then I thought, 'OK, well, why not take the gamble with Palin?'But I will say this. For all the alleged dumbing down, the people who ran and won in 2010 and 2012 were pretty impressive, a lot of them. The Republican ticket in 2012 was Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. Whatever again you think of them, that's not a dumbed-down ticket. So I thought, 'OK, Palin, they didn't win.' And I thought, 'OK, she chose to be a celebrity rather than a politician.' I didn't realize that we were going into a celebrity culture — such a celebrity culture that Trump would actually as a celebrity run and win in 2016.I don't think Palin really led to Trump. Was this somehow a bit of a precursor or something? I'm willing to say, 'Maybe so.'Read moreKristol on the state of the Republican PartyKristol on businesses kissing up to TrumpKristol on Fox News and Tucker Carlson

His main priority, both now and for his entire life, has been to push right-wing policies and fight against anything progressive. I can't imagine why anyone thinks he's a good person for Dems to be listening to as to who to nominate for president.

Kristol in particular has been more wrong than almost anyone else in his prognostications, whether military or economic or political. Why would anyone listen to him about anything? Particularly since, whatever he claims, it's obvious that what he wants more than everything is to prevent Bernie from becoming president.

In short, Bill Kristol is a right-winger who doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.

So then defeating Donald Trump is wrong? Electing the best Democratic candidate to defeat Trump is wrong? That is what this discussion is about, NOT about Kristol's right-wing views. Nothing he said in his tweet represented his right-wing views, it was about nominating the best candidate to defeat the monster in the White House.

So if Kristol "doesn't have a clue what he's talking about", a large percentage of Democrats who think Biden is a better choice to defeat Trump don't know what they're talking about either. The problem with the attitude of so many of the purists is they would whittle the Democratic party down to a very small and ineffective party.

much too much time talking about Bill Kristol, someone who rarely even pops in my head.

I think we've said all that needs to be said on the subject.

Joe Biden

34. This is a thread about neocon war criminal Bill Kristol endorsing Biden

I was told I should be more worried about what Trump says. In the context of the thread this suggests an endorsement.

So let's see it.

You see Biden using Bill in an ad? And the answer is no.

They are absolutely disgusted with Trump, but there is no way they will vote for a "progressive" like Sanders.

B/t/w check out the Bay Area Bernie Bros and Siss and their appalling attitude towards Mayor Pete's withdrawal. Really progressive...

48. Conservatism as we knew it is dead

Kristol is a old-school conservative, with a record of being wrong on so many issues but nevertheless aware of the threat that Trumpism poses to democracy. In place of conservatism, we have radical authoritarianism fronted by an dangerously irrational and corrupt con artist. Come November. this nemesis that must be soundly defeated, and if it takes the votes of disaffected Republicans who are aghast at what their party has become, that is fine by me. If and when conservatism is restored in the wake of the Trumpism disaster, we can do battle with them accordingly. For the time being, a coalition of unusual bedfellows that manages to get the job done come November should be seen as a positive thing.

He recently claimed to have become a Democrat, because of Trump. I don't believe that for a minute, but I know one thing: He knows politics pretty well.

I listen to him when he says stuff like this.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
