Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumAnyone else have ZERO interest in policy debates in these times?
And certainly not purity tests or the suicidal tactics of splitting the party apart along certain factions for denigration and fighting old fights, all but guaranteeing an uphill fight in Nov 2020.
The uncomfortable truth - The next Democratic President will not get any major peice of legislation passed by congress, let alone remain intact by Trump's courts. He/she is likely to be a policy failure and will be obstructed at every turn.
Inheriting the presidency from Trump will be a poisoned chalice for whomever drinks it, but they'll be saving the country from further destruction.
In short, none of this matters, for the only thing that truly matters is removing Trump from office.
We live in truly dangerous times and I don't think one or two of the candidates seem to fully appreciate or even care about that fact lest they be 'denied' the nomination.
Wake up. America is fighting for her very survival.

but yeah, i can't be bothered with the policy details of things like health care. *any* democratic president will make things better on that front, and while usually i'd be keenly interested in such matters, the difference between donnie and any democrat is huge compared to the differences among the democrat and any policy details.

(2,018 posts)We are supposed to work out who is the best candidate through testing - policy, plans, energy, stamina, voter appeal. I am always interested in these issues, and in debate, although not in this stupid 1 minute format we have this year so that no questions can truly be answered except in watered-down sound bites.
Yes, the GOP will try to block a Dem president at every turn. That doesn't mean that you give up. You get the best presidential candidate you can, then everyone works to get them elected after the selection process (polite, angry, or otherwise) is finished. That's literally how it's supposed to work.
There are 2 congressional elections in the 1st term - 2020 and 2022. What, are you going to just give up on those? This is not a battle just for POTUS. This has to be a battle for POTUS, house, and senate.
Yes, inheriting Dump's mess is a poisoned chalice. But we CAN turn things around. Expecting we can do no more than stop a madman from doing worse is surrendering, where no surrender is merited.
