Don’t let your fear of what the GOP might do shape your agenda to fit what the GOP wants. That’s behaving like a battered wife. That’s how they win. Our Democratic Party moderates need to get bolder and give voters something they can get behind. How will moderates attract the Sanders voters?

142. That was Elizabeth's mistake
Mon Mar 2, 2020, 04:32 PM
Mar 2020

The circumstances are: we have to beat Trump soundly because he's going to cheat.

If we don't beat him, we get nothing. All the stuff Elizabeth and Bernie preach about will not happen. I love what they talk about. I wish it were a reality. But that ain't gonna happen with the corruption in the Oval Office, GOP Senate, GOP House members and the questionable appointments to the courts.

Without power, we have nothing.

Trump and the GOP are going to do whatever corrupt things they can to steal this election. They have to because the consequences of them losing is jail for a number of them. So this time around, we cannot give them anything to hang on. No death panels. No allegations of Commie, no outrageous claims of taxation & expenditures on those programs, no claims that they're going to take people's health insurance away, etc.

Can't do that this time. We can't afford to give them any edge politically.

Once we have power, let's talk more specifically about what we can accomplish. And move us towards the policies Elizabeth and Bernie are talking about. None of that stuff matter unless we win. So we need policies that are going to garner the most support.

That is what will frighten Trump & the GOP the most.

The only issue in 2020 for all Democrats, moderates, progressives, liberals, should be removal of Trump and as many GOP as possible.

To many voters over look the fact that the President does not make the laws - the Congress does. The President may lead an effort to pass legislation that would advance a voters Pet issue but for sure they will never see their pet issue passed into law if they don't vote for a candidate that can beat Trump. Joe Biden is the only one who can beat Trump.

him repeatedly in 2015-2016; and in 2015 she was interested in possibly being Biden's running mate if he ran, and then in 2016 Hillary's.

Behind that pattern is the reality that they're oil and water. (He's oil, she's water, which makes liberal Democrats soap. )

Someone recently described fundamentally economically conservative Warren, who can be hard to peg, as radical in defense of tradition. The tradition would be the principles, opportunities and prosperity which were created by both progressive liberals and progressive conservatives of the New Deal era. She's always struck me as potentially a modern-day Frances Perkins.

In contrast, Sanders-type class-warfare populists/radicals passionately opposed them then as corrut and are eager now to kick over the New Deal bucket and finish off its destruction.

Besides, Sanders just doesn't play well with others, and especially doesn't tolerate competition or disagreement, which would make being even a self-effacing, mostly ceremonial VP very unpleasant. (And who can see Warren agreeing to that role?) Also, who could imagine that Sanders would want to pair with someone believed by observers to be far smarter and more competent, with much better developed ideas, than him? Even if she wasn't a woman?

Ergo, Warren.

Laughable-scary, though? Populists are dangerous. If they could have when they were chanting "Lock her up" and "Hillary for prison" in 2016, they really WOULD have imprisoned her for running against their leaders.

And there's another huge difference: Warren just doesn't have the vicious, aggressively antagonistic character that Sanders' angry class-warfare mob is taking on. She's an alliance-creator excited about bringing groups together to build good things. Whereas both Sanders' and Trump's mobs need to attack and tear down, and defeating opponents isn't enough for many, they want to hurt those who dare oppose them.

Fresh, clear water versus poison fuel oil threatening to go up in flames and take us all with it. And in this scenario, Putin's the match.

I'm sure Klobuchar chose this time as most strategic for defeating Sanders/Trump/Russia. Earlier someone suggested it might be more valuable for her and others to stay in and draw delegates away from Sanders for a while, but apparently she doesn't expect to break 15.

I don't think he will pick up too many delegates. But when his vote gets reallocated it will go equally to Sanders and Biden. Or it Bernie is leading in a given state then I believe it will go disproportionately to him. If he drops out then I expect most of that vote to go to Biden.

Two moderates with two really intelligent moves in the last two days.

Go Joe!!

I really think she could have taken trump on and beat him.

Amy and Warren were my next to picks. I have now decided, before the Washington State primaries, Biden is the one we need, and I have already sent my ballet in.

We need to come together and get rid of trump, and that is more important than anything else. I think Joe is the person with the best chance. I also hope to see a VP Kamala Harris, but I would settle for her as AG also.

No matter what, vote blue!

Older daughter and DIL (former Harris supporters) now Warren Supporters. Ok, time for MOM to step up to the plate and convince them to support Biden. I did this way back when to vote for Hillary for our Senator. We were all Sanders supporters last Primary. Told them you vote for WHOEVER is the nominee then (Hillary).

Our ONLY goal should be to boot TRUMP'S ass out of the White House. Anyone disagree with that????? Vote Blue No Matter WHO!

Edit: They all live in NY and I now live in PA.

No other choice for her. If I vote for Klobuchar now then I may be a racist. Looks like if you ever worked with police as a job then there is a ceiling on your career in politics. I feel for the family of the little girl who was shot back in 2002. I hope that Amy sticks with national politics or govt service though because I am not in MN and I like her.

Peace to all of DU! Glad to see lots of positivity here

the most qualified candidate. But she's dong the right thing. Now, with CA coming up, Biden should already offered the VP to Kamala Harris. If he doesn't get at least 15% of the CA vote, Bernie gets all 300 delegates, and it might be over. So Joe needs help, and Kamala would help. She also might make a terrific VP and, eventually, a good POTUS.
