I think it is wrong for media to announce that a candidate is the projected winner.

It doesn't say anything. And doesn't mean anything.

The details matter because just someone is the projected winner doesn't mean they receive all the delegates.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

has the ability to ascertain that winning a state doesn’t mean that candidate gets all the marbles.

Or that the actual reported numbers have created an insurmountable lead for a candidate.

I don't really see the problem. They're pretty careful to announce only when the outcome looks clear.

But people really seem to buy that notion - hence the Bush 2000 victory.

Just count the votes - no matter how long it takes - and announce the winner.

"Call" indeed.

They called it for Gore, and then the cameras went immediately to the Bush family in a hotel room contesting the call. Why? Because Bush’s brother was governor and they somehow “knew” it had been arranged for George.

I will never forget the screams I directed to the tv that night. I still believe Gore won Florida.

They make early calls when they are positive the candidate has an insurmountable lead, based on exit polls. Which are usually quite accurate.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
