How does the Sanders campaign end?

The party seems to have quickly decided on Joe, while Sanders is fading fast.

It’s hard to see how Bernie still has a realistic path to the nomination at this point, so the question becomes how will it all end?

Will he recognize reality and unite early in service of defeating Donald Trump?

Or will he continue a zombie campaign to the convention, long after he has been mathematically eliminated?

Assuming he stays in until 3/17, you would have to think a massive defeat in Florida would truly deliver the coup de grace to his fledgling campaign.

If he doesn’t get out after that, we may have our answer.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Let's let everyone vote and then see where things stand. No reason those of us in later states shouldn't get a say. The primaries will be over by June, so there should be plenty of time to unite the party.

Given what he said at the debate and reiterated today, I don't think Bernie will fight to the convention if he has fewer delegates than Biden at the end of the primaries.

Is that Sanders is a good enough man, that when the time comes, he will throw his unwavering support behind the apparent nominee.
There are places in government, other than the President's office, where Sanders could do our country a world of good. He would deserve a spot in a Democratically led presidency. (hear that Joe?)

If Sanders tried to play spoiler and it got Trump reelected by a small margin then he would be responsible for hanging us with four more years of Trump, out of spite. I don't think he will do that, and I don't think that his supporters would want him to.

Barring some Bernie miracle, it will be Biden. Now the big question is who he will select has his running mate. I like Warren for that spot, but it is not my call.

The sooner all of this stuff is worked out, the better. The sooner all of us can get behind a candidate and start pounding on Trump instead of each other, the better our chances. Lets remember what makes us more alike than different and go out and hand Trump and his hateful followers the defeat that all deserve. Lets take our country back from the dirty bastards.

If they are, they are certainly not doing it on the level that Sanders supporters are. And they certainly aren't as insulting to Warren as the Sanders supporters have been to her. And they aren't the ones calling her a snake. Or a liar. Or a spoiler. Or anything of the sort.

If you want to vote for Sanders, hey, vote for Sanders. But there is no need to conjure up a false justification for why you are doing so, because if someone's supporters demanding another candidate to suspend their campaign was your guiding light, you would never vote for Sanders given how his supporters have treated Warren (your preferred candidate, apparently).

But, Biden people are in full gloat mode, especially about Warren. His speech about "the people of Mass" was a direct "Fuck you" to Warren and all of her supporters.

I'm not fond of Sanders' supporters either, they have been very nasty and dismissive as well.

Some of us are heartbroken that even today, a woman can't be taken seriously. It's as if Clinton losing means nope, no more chances for the womenfolk, just let the old white men take it from here.

And who has been pushing the meme that a woman isn't electable? The surrogates of all the male candidates from day one.

Here's how it goes...

I would vote for a woman for president...

Clinton: but not THAT woman...

Harris: Nope, not her either...

Klobuchar: Nah, not that one...

Warren: Nope, not her either.

Do you even have the tiniest idea how frustrating it is to see that even here, where we're supposed to be at least slightly liberal, people deny that misogyny even exists?

I am glad you voted for Warren. If Sanders were not in the race, I would have voted for her. I supported her for the longest time, from when she was the first to adamantly come out in favor of impeachment, up until around October/November or so, and I had donated the most to her until Biden's recent surge earned him a few more donations from me.

I knew that there was a sexist element in play during 2016, but I didn't realize how strong it was until this primary. Warren's relatively poor electoral performances, even though she was probably one of the strongest candidates and best campaigners out there, opened my eyes to the sexism that women have to face. It makes me admire Hillary even more for all that she accomplished in the face of such odds.

I am sure that even some Biden supporters have made some sexist remarks or comments that could be seen as such at some point, and for that, I apologize on their behalf. But unfortunately, there is a virulent strain of sexism (among other bigoted sentiments) running through a sizable portion of the Sanders crowd, and that was what I was speaking out against. Luckily the rules of this site probably prevent a lot of it from being shared here, but in other forums, it is downright deplorable what they are doing to all Democrats, but ESPECIALLY Warren.

SC and yesterday. If Joe keeps doing well over the next couple of weeks and Bernie does not, things might be different.

I don't see the need to effectively close down the rest of the rest of the primaries. It's only the first week of March. If "Joe-mentum" is lasting, not just a SC win and endorsements short term bump, then it will be time for Bernie to consider his primary goal which is to get rid of Trump. I think that under those circumstances things will play out differently than they did in 2016.

Voters were faced with what seemed to be an inevitable Bernie nomination, and rallied to the one candidate people thought had a chance to beat him. I would venture to say the most people who voted for Biden did not have him as their first second or even third choice…but were so concerned about Bernie getting an insurmountable lead, that it became a priority to coalesce.

With that kind of momentum against a candidate, I don’t see him winning many more votes. He is much like trump in that his base is extremely loyal, but hovers around 30 to 35% in liberal states, and much less in more conservative ones.

that some voters "were so concerned about Bernie getting an insurmountable lead". I would agree that if Joe's momentum proves to be not a short-term phenomenon over the next few weeks, Bernie should do the right thing and withdraw. Primaries see some wild swings. Obviously there’s no rising above Bernie’s behavior, your responses make you no better. Let’s all stoop to a low. Fair is fair right? Sad.

Why not lead by example? Be a role model? It’s not difficult...

Out, out, brief candle!
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player,
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage,
And then is heard no more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.
