I love Kamala... but I don't think Joe picks her. As a Californian, she doesn't put any state in play that wasn't in play. Stacey Abrams, otoh, puts Georgia in play as a new swing state.

And Katie is likely the smartest person in the House right now... and DiFi will likely not seek another term.

OTOH, if we win back the Senate this year... she would be up for some very senior Senate positions so maybe she hangs on.

Either way I think Katie would be an excellent Senator from California. She does her homework.

Thu Mar 5, 2020, 01:46 PM

She should have never tried to crowd into Bernie's lane. She had two realistic paths to the nomination. If Bernie wasn't running, she could have been the hard left candidate. But with him there, her best chance was to forge a path between the moderates and liberals, and tried to slurp up all of the support that went to Pete and Amy. If she could have made it a 3 person race between her, Joe, and Bernie, then she could have become the compromise candidate if there was a brokered convention.

I also have in issue with the "She has a plan for that" slogan. All of her plans just felt like Bernie's plans, with a little tweaking. She didn't go with her strengths. She tried to be a populist, when she would have been better off selling herself as a problem solver.

I briefly was looking to support her early on, but I moved to Pete when she went all in on Medicare for All. She should have come up with her own unique plan. But instead, every time she pushed M4A, she was just promoting Bernie instead of herself.

If I were to vote in a presidential

You say "sure" that you have proof that she didn't try to expand her constituency. That article doesn't do that. At all.

You try to use it to bolster your absurd statement that she is very unpopular with other senators. It doesn't do that either. I guess the concept of the article was too complicated for you to get, but it didn't have anything to do with being liked by fellow senators.

Of course, maybe you knew that. Maybe you just wanted to be crass and try to irritate Warren supporters.

If you wanted to divide the party and chase away Democrats from voting to nominate Joe, there isn't much more you could do to actually help keep Biden from being the candidate to run against trump. That isn't really what you want to do, is it? It that is what you really want to do, then you are really good at it.

I supported Warren from the beginning, but switched to Biden for the primary despite boors from the Biden and Bernie camps who trashed her. I did so because the most important thing is to beat trump. At least that is what most of us are trying to do rather than help trump by posting needless division.

that it is overstating to say she was a once in a lifetime candidate. What would that even mean?

I like her and was planning to vote for her in my primary. But we spend too much time in hagiography around here and elsewhere.

Our job is to get good candidates (and there are and will be many) who can do the best of our country. It's not our job to find saviors (of which there are few). Some people are successful in campaigns and some are not.

I wish she had been more successful, but I refuse to believe that somebody as good won't come along. She will. And I will vote for her.

I do agree that it is a sad day.

I don't think anyone should expect her to come out immediately and endorse either Sanders or Biden. She will wait and she will hold her power and she will then become a part of the future Democratic Presidency and whether it be helping them from the Senate or even a role in the administration - She will do great things and play a role.

I've made my peace with Biden, but I find it really difficult to understand why, yet again, someone who was bested by Hillary Clinton gets to move on while she's relegated to the sidelines.

2008 - had more votes than Obama, but the DNC wouldn't count Michigan and Florida, so she finished second while Biden was a distant fifth (and he was put on the ticket, not her). Soldiered on with a smile.

2016 - beat Bernie by 4 million votes, was accused of rigging, was booed at her own convention, soldiered on with a smile.

2016 - had to battle bitter Bernie supporters, the Russians, the FBI, Comey, and Trump, still won by 3 million votes, but was hamstrung by the Electoral College. Soldiered on with a smile and a few tears.

Yet it's fine and dandy for all these people Hillary beat to run again, and if she'd tried it, well, we all know what would happen.

I'm inclined to agree with you, but worse than that, if we ever do, it won't be one who was in the trenches while woman fought for their rights.

It will be someone who's the recipient of the hard-won battles, and the women who really made it happen and understand what it took to get there will be consigned to the dustbin of history.

Women in their 20s and 30s DO NOT KNOW what the women before them went through, and very few choose to acknowledge it.

Let her serve where she'll do the most good if she wishes. SEC, Treasury. A pit-bull lording over wall street and the financials.
As far as a woman never being president, I'm not there yet. I believe Michelle would have stomped the competition and undone all Trump took away from her husband and America. That would have been beautiful as well.
Right now there is only one objective, WIN. Biden is not the ideal progressive but consider this. The aged are being replaced by the youth. Time is on our side. We'll get there. We absolutely must win. Look what Trump did in his first term. Just imagine what he'll do in a second when reelection isn't an issue.

didn't like Hillary Clinton at all back in 2016. So, it's like she didn't count, despite winning a majority of the popular vote and being the first woman nominated by a major political party for President in history.

It's almost like she never existed and never ran and won the popular vote.

I find that very disturbing, frankly. I was as excited to have her as our Candidate in 2016, as I was to have Barack Obama as our candidate in 2008. Both were groundbreaking, revolutionary nominees. I was excited to vote for both of them, too.

But, many others in our Party were not happy with Hillary Clinton as our nominee, and not just the men, either.

It's incredibly sad, to me, frankly.
