The Biden people wanted them out and likely rewarded them in some way to get them to leave the race before ST when they would have very likely taken some delegates.

I suspect that Pete will be VP as a result of that deal.

It is logical that there was pressure on them to leave.

25. Pete didn't talk to Biden until after dropping out
Sun Mar 8, 2020, 11:48 AM
Mar 2020

Pete made his decision and was on his way back to South Bend and hadn't spoken with Biden.

I realize that conspiracy theory is far more entertaining than the truth, but it is what it is.

How do I know this? I was a part of the digital response team for Pete.

Pete did the math. There was no path for him. Instead of being a spoiler candidate, Pete did exactly what he had been saying, the party first. It doesn't take a math genius to figure out that by staying in the race stole votes from others. We had been working on Sunday to prep and were working when we found out Pete was dropping out. We asked the question, "Had he talked to Biden?" No. He hasn't. Pete dropped out solely for the health and benefit of the party.

Immediately the conspiracy theories were running that it was because he "got something." He had no assurances of any type before dropping out.

I don't believe Pete will be VP. I believe the VP will be a woman of color.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

Sun Mar 8, 2020, 12:43 PM
Mar 2020

They clearly saw they had no 2020 path. They are both young. Leaving as they did - they left on a positive note and will both have a role in the General election campaign. They left with Biden praising them and their campaigns.

What was the alternative? It is very likely that both would have been out 2 days later or within the next 2 weeks. Sanders expected to get an insurmountable delegate lead by getting 30 to 35 % of the vote with many moderate votes on SuperTuesday going to below threshold candidates. There was talk of him getting the lion's share - if not all of California's vote doing just that. If many of us on DU read of that possibility, certainly the candidates and their teams did. Not to mention - Sanders' surrogates were calling for Warren to drop out to help him before ST.

It was in the self interest of Amy and Pete to do what they did. (Especially for Pete, who is not a sitting Senator like Amy.)

The rout tonight will be another decisive rejection of his campaign. He needs to close up shop after tonight. I would not be surprised if he chooses not to endorse Biden. I get the feeling this selfish man thinks he's somehow entitled to be the nominee. No sir, you only win IF voters decide they want you.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
