Washington (CNN)Civil rights leader and former presidential candidate Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. on Sunday endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders for the Democratic presidential nomination.
"With the exception of Native Americans, African Americans are the people who are most behind socially and economically in the United States and our needs are not moderate. A people far behind cannot catch up choosing the most moderate path. The most progressive social and economic path gives us the best chance to catch up and Senator Bernie Sanders represents the most progressive path. That's why I choose to endorse him today," Jackson said in a statement.
"The Biden campaign has not reached out to me or asked for my support," he added. "The Sanders campaign has, and they responded to the issues I raised."
The Sanders campaign said Jackson plans to speak alongside the senator at an event in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Sunday. The state will hold its Democratic primary on Tuesday -- a key state for both former Vice President Joe Biden and the Vermont senator.

I like Sen. Sanders as a person, but not as the Democratic Party nominee, he just can't win against the Mango Menace.

The endorsement from Jackson, who sought the Democratic nomination in 1984 and 1988, came just a day after the U.S. senator from Vermont held a rally in Chicago's Grant Park attended by about 15,000 people. According to Sanders' campaign, Jackson planned to speak Sunday at an event in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Since Super Tuesday, political commentators have declared the contest a two-person race between Sanders and former Vice President Joe Biden "for the future of the Democratic Party and the country." Jackson said in his endorsement of Sanders Sunday that "we have a right to ask and expect candidates who benefit from the African-American political firewall to deliver what we need under the potential leadership of Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden."
"With the exception of Native Americans, African Americans are the people who are most behind socially and economically in the United States and our needs are not moderate," said Jackson. "A people far behind cannot catch up choosing the most moderate path. The most progressive social and economic path gives us the best chance to catch up and Senator Bernie Sanders represents the most progressive path. That's why I choose to endorse him today."
"The Biden campaign has not reached out to me or asked for my support," Jackson noted. "The Sanders campaign has, and they responded to the issues I raised and the concerns I expressed." The civil rights leader shared a list of 13 comments and commitments from the Sanders campaign, which included addressing voter suppression; tax and trade reforms; advancing Medicare for All; providing high-quality, free public education; and promoting peace and ending endless wars.

Is this supposed to rally the AA voters?
After Sen. Sanders no show for the Bloody Sunday memorial, i think he can write off the AA vote, even with Jesse Jackson endorsing him.

(58,425 posts)are in the South, however there are progressive ones as well spread throughout the nation.
No doubt local culture affects everyone's perspective regardless of race.
Having said that, the corporate media conglomerates do love to treat African Americans as a monolith precisely because moderate matches up with establishment interests whether in politics or media.
The ironic thing is the corporate media conglomerates also know that in the G.E. Republicans almost always dominate in the South so defacto the CMCs play to Republican strength whether intentional or not.
