(1,532 posts)A vast majority of mainstream nurses won't support MfA because it will reduce their pay and increase their work.

(16,375 posts)There is no reason to assume that universal health coveage would reduce nurses pay or increase their work. You might examine the beliefs that underlie these assumptions.

About them
NNU was founded in 2009 unifying three of the most active, progressive organizations in the U.S.and the major voices of unionized nursesin the California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee, United American Nurses, and Massachusetts Nurses Association.
Combining the unparalleled record of accomplishments for nurses and patients embodied in the proud history of those nurses associations, which for some span more than 100 years, the establishment of NNU brought to life the dream of a powerful, national movement of direct care RNs.
At its founding convention in December, 2009, NNU adopted a call for action premised on the principles intended to counter the national assault by the healthcare industry on patient care conditions and standards for nurses, and to promote a unified vision of collective action for nurses with campaigns to:
Advance the interests of direct care nurses and patients across the U.S.
Organize all direct care RNs "into a single organization capable of exercising influence over the healthcare industry, governments, and employers."
Promote effective collective bargaining representation to all NNU affiliates to promote the economic and professional interests of all direct care RNs.
Expand the voice of direct care RNs and patients in public policy, including the enactment of safe nurse to patient ratios and patient advocacy rights in Congress and every state.
Win "healthcare justice, accessible, quality healthcare for all, as a human right."

Medicare For All would give power back to health professionals, where it belongs.
How so? How does that work? Does he have any details?
PS. Many, many nurses in my family. None are calling for MfA.

(83,875 posts)Also there is a huge nursing shortage as the old ones like my sister are retiring. As your wife knows they don't bother to train the young ones to replace their elders.
Also we voted on this last year. It failed because admin did not want it. Very mixed views.
Will patient limits help nurses but hurt hospitals?
Beyond that is much disagreement on a legislative push to put Illinois alone with California as the only states to set nurse-patient limits.

My sister worked in ICU and the number of patients per nurse is limited. However elsewhere in the hospital it is not. Overburdening a nurse means less quality care. I wonder if MfA addresses these issues.

(67,782 posts)or "physician assistants" - cheaper than nurses.
I fear that it will be a long time before we find out if Medicare for All will address this, those are the little details that get glossed over.

(1,532 posts)They think his half-baked health care plans would cause chaos, lower pay for health care workers causing shortages and then less care at lower quality for everyone.
They prefer Medicare for America of "Medicare for those who want it."

(1,532 posts)to say "Sanders' supporter nurses" instead of just "nurses"
You are deceptively implying that ALL nurses are favoring MfA. I don't think Sanders supporters want to deceive the public right? Or do they?
