Biden's bulldogs give him an edge in 2020

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/04/13/biden-bulldogs-1272931

The two-term vice president has a built-in institutional advantage over his Democratic rivals as he prepares to enter the crowded primary as the presumptive frontrunner in the contest to take on President Donald Trump. Biden has a stable of as many as a dozen senators and still more in the House that are prepared to vouch for him when he inevitably comes under siege.....

Yet no other White House hopeful has such a broad congressional coalition as Biden, who can likely count House members and senators like Doug Jones of Alabama to align with him once he gets in the race. The candidate most closely trailing him in the polls, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), has a fraction of the support in the party establishment that Biden has. Few rose to Sanders’ defense amid criticism that he’s been to slow to release his tax returns, particularly in comparison to when Biden has faced a backlash.

“Longstanding relationships with people who know you, who know who you are and what you stand for, always gives you credibility,” said Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.). Biden eulogized her husband, former Rep. John Dingell — the longest serving lawmaker in history — earlier this year.

“I’m not meaning to make a comparison,” Coons said. But “among the two dozen [Senate Democrats] who did serve with him, at least half of them are being advocates for him.”

trump needs Pennsylvania to win. Pennsylvania is Biden's home state. Biden has always had a strong relationship with blue collar workers. People want normalcy. It's a numbers game. Biden and a progressive Dem woman would be a strong ticket.

colleagues rose to defend Biden because of his basic philosophy of building long relationships with people, getting to know their personal stories and family dynamics. He refers to this as The Delaware Way and believes it's the only way to legislate effectively, where you can disagree politically but eliminate the vitriol, eventually reaching agreements. Because it's hard, Biden has said, to hate someone when you know them, know their family problems, their backstory, etc. Because of these efforts over many years, Biden's friends were quick to defend him in the recent brouhaha. No mystery there because we all have friends of our own who would do the same under similar circumstances.

In comparison, Sanders has rarely been a team player. He's always appeared to relish the position of outsider. It's only been recently that he's added some personal information to his campaign outreach. For the sake of potential voters, not his congressional colleagues.

Different personalities, temperaments and approaches.

But in times of trouble? Having a stable of friends who like and respect you is a very good thing.

Yup, nurturing friendships over the years can certainly have benefits. Biden has extended that habit of developing and sustaining relationships abroad, knowing the people, the landscapes, the geopolitical complications. He's the only candidate to date who has foreign policy experience and knowledge. God knows, we'll have multiple bridges to repair following the Trumpnado's destructive run.

All golden and hard to beat.
