Biden readies plan to finish off Bernie

Joe Biden has long complained about the crowded debate stage and a restrictive format that doesn’t allow enough time for candidates to speak.

Biden has thrived in the one-on-one format during vice presidential debates. His plan Sunday is to focus on his electability and how he’s in sync with the Democratic electorate after winning 15 states, according to aides.

In the face of aggressive questioning from Sanders, Biden can now point to record turnout in states like Virginia, which overwhelmingly supported him. Then there’s the fact that he won nearly all of the African American support in Mississippi.

What’s more, Biden has won whites by big margins and racked up wins in the cities, suburbs and in rural areas, a fact that advisers hope will give him a sense of confidence against Sanders.

“Success builds on success,” said Ron Klain, Biden’s top adviser in charge of debates.

Biden is the right choice at this time. Yes, I love Bernie's/Warren's/AOC's progressive ideas and policies. I would vote for them in a heartbeat. The reality is, at this point, we MUST defeat Trump. We cannot count on the COVID-19 doing him in. It won't. I've been seeing the posts on FB from my GOP/Trump supporter relatives and former friends back in the South. They completely believe COVID-19 is all just an effort to oust Trump. If anything, it has made them support him more, not less.

Had Trump not scrapped Obama’s pandemic council, this could’ve been preventable. I’m not saying that M4A wouldn’t have, but it wouldn’t have prevented it. That takes early preparation, which was a strength of the Obama administration when it comes to dealing with pandemics like this.

has universal healthcare and it certainly didn't help them.

Besides, Biden's plan would both ensure universal coverage and might actually get passed.

What could have helped would have been widespread testing in areas where any case had been confirmed and in other places that were statistically most likely to see cased. San Francisco, LA, Seattle, NY, Chicago, and any city with an international airport. Get the tests out where, including using the WHO tests until our own were up and going. Test anyone showing symptoms consistent with Covid 19.

That lets you actually model the problem better. It lets you get in front and do real contact tracing. It lets you know when comunity spread is happening fast and try to stop it before its out of control.

On the other hand, Sanders has been in Washington almost 30 years, why hasn't he been able to convince his colleagues to pass his proposals in all that time? Remember, Representatives and Senators introduce legislation and get it passed, Presidents don't.

People (myself included) think that Bernie should drop out because 1) it's clear that he won't win the nomination and 2) it's better for our nominee (Biden) to begin focusing his campaign on Trump. Biden has never had the "fan" base that Sanders does.

primary today, I would vote for:

the Biden Bros are at it.

I'm sad that so many want to jump the gun. I wish there were only a single day primary nationwide since we quit letting the National Convention be the nominating convention many years ago.

Candidates would campaign in high-delegate states and ignore the rest. CA, NY, FL, TX and a few others would be kingmakers.

How exactly is that better than the current system?

You're pining for 1908?

That being said, the convention is still the nominating convention to this day. The nominee isn't official until confirmed by a delegate vote at the convention.

If there was a single-day primary, candidates would focus only on high-delegate states and ignore the rest.

On the other hand Bernie won't damage Biden much either, much as his partisans are hoping he will. One more debate will change little, like all those debates Hillary had with Bernie and then with Trump. She won every one on points and style but voters had made up their minds. And we already know what the media narrative will be: Bernie is back! Bernie is the comeback kid! Until of course the returns come in on Tuesday and he gets beaten again in all 4 states.

You heard it here first!

is over for Bernie. Joe has had a brilliant week, if he tops that off by handling Sanders in a one on one debate, there is no longer any rational reason for Sanders to stay in the race, and if he does, voters will punish him in the remaining primaries.
