Pete is going to need more exposure, he only has 800k followers, I looked today and most of the top candidates have in the millions, Elizabeth, Kamela, even Joe from being VP.

(81,440 posts)I already liked the guy. But his debut as a formal candidate was damn near electrifying! How 'bout "Make America Hopeful Again"?
Not quite ready to abandon Jay Inslee. But he's not catching fire (makes me sad to say that - even sadder to see it), and this kid (sorry - I'm almost 66. He's still a kid, to me) Buttigieg just absolutely rocketed out onto center stage today.
"Running for office is an act of hope."
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG...

(10,575 posts)As a gay man born in Washington state, now living in California, that speaks Norwegian - there are a ton of good choices. Theres just something about that feels like home for me. (Surprisingly its not his orientation or common languages that sway me, its everything, from his speaking to his kindness).

(5,167 posts)Though I don't see all of them as President within the next 2-6 years, I do many as great candidates for vice President or strong Cabinet members, leading our country back to a forward-looking course.
I plan to remain undecided for many months, but do admit that I, a senior citizen, prefer someone younger than 50; even under 60 is pretty good. The vibrancy of a younger candidate cannot be touched by the current executive.

(17,314 posts)Mayor Pete really seems to be gaining momentum. He's definitely on the media's radar now and therefore getting noticed by more Americans. With that will come some speed bumps, but I'm confident Pete will handle them with aplomb.
While he doesn't come with federal experience, he also doesn't carry the baggage associated with the candidates who have been in Washington for years.

(13,485 posts)and I vote for the one who is, it doesn't change my mind that Mayor Pete is the person America would benefit the most from as president. That's how I see it at this point.

(6,139 posts)No one else has this insanely important attribute in 2020 election the outcome of which will SOLELY depend on midwest. He has no equal in oratorical abilities among 2020 contenders. His only match is Obama (also JFK and Bill Clinton).

(261 posts)Right now he's my third choice, behind Sanders and Warren. But Warren isn't catching fire and I worry that both Sanders and Warren will wave too big of a red flag to the financial world. So Im hoping Pete would be a sort of trojan horse candidate who might be as progressive. My big concerns are climate change and income inequality and it will take someone unafraid of the financial powers to deal with both of these problems.

(4,066 posts)I will admit I had concerns about the lack of experience. However, since we've elected a reality TV star who only knows how to run companies into the ground, that really should no longer be a concern about any candidate.
Trump has never been the successful, self-made man he claims.
Buttigieg is as smart as a person can be. He also has empathy and compassion. Something I believe was the core of Obama's appeal.
I NEVER thought I'd see an African American man elected as President in my lifetime. I never thought I'd see legal same-sex marriage.
It's not like he's going to lose the vote of people because he's gay. The people who won't vote for him just because of that were NEVER going to vote for a Democrat in the first place.

(13,390 posts)I love how one of the guys pointed that out during his introduction. It's a notable fact that over the course of the past 50 yrs we have had one right-handed president who was not corrupt and blatantly dishonest. Carter - among Nixon, W, and Trump.
Not all of the lefties were great presidents, but the best ones in my lifetime are left-handed.
