He looks and sounds good on TV. He seeks out as many interviews as he can get to raise his profile. When you do that aggressively, they want to talk you more and it creates a buzz.

And as POTUS, I can see Pete being very Bartlet-esque, i.e., bringing to any issue a deep intellect, a curious mind, and vast storehouse of knowledge and wisdom... even to the point of boring staff with countless factoids and history lessons.
