Beto O'Rourke at Clemson rally: 'Truth' must be told about Ben Tillman's racist views

During a rally Sunday at Clemson University, Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke said the truth should be known about the white supremacist actions and views of Ben Tillman, the former South Carolina governor and U.S. senator who is the namesake of Tillman Hall.

O'Rourke, a former congressman from Texas who was visiting Clemson for the first time, said he learned that Tillman "worked with white nationalist terrorist organizations that murdered African Americans in this state."

He praised Clemson students for calling for Tillman Hall to be renamed.

The university's board of trustees has said that it can't be done because of the state's Heritage Act, which would require a two-thirds vote in each chamber of the South Carolina General Assembly to change the building's name.

Upon learning that Booker T. Washington had dined with President Theodore Roosevelt in the White House, South Carolina’s former governor and then-U.S. Sen. Tillman is radioactive and will be very hard to carry the water for.

He is learning about the specific issues of all of the places he goes and then speaks to the residents about those issues. He is making the race not just national, but local and regional, talking about how his policy plans would help them in their own communities.

Even in Iowa with almost entirely white crowds he has been bold on race issues. That's one of my favorite things about Beto. He does NOT poll specific issues. He speaks completely honestly about what he believes. He's got a wonderful way of being gracious and respectful even when people disagree with him or vice versa.

Not sure how much you have listened to him but if you haven't you really should, especially if race is important to you.
