Bernie Sanders Organizer Screams Expletives at Rally: 'F*ck Hillary! F*ck Hillary!'

Bernie Sanders Organizer Screams Expletives at Rally: ‘F*ck Hillary! F*ck Hillary!’

By Tommy Christopher Apr 15th, 2019, 1:05 pm

https://www.mediaite.com/print/bernie-sanders-organizer-screams-expletives-at-rally-fck-hillary-fck-hillary/

A Bernie Sanders organizer named Mark Craig shouted expletives at a Bernie Sanders rally over the weekend, targeting former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with screams of “Fuck Hillary! Fuck Hillary!”

At a rally on Saturday in Warren, Michigan, Sanders spent a portion of his speech boasting about his success at reducing the power of Democratic “superdelegates” in the primary process.

...

It was during this section of the speech that, according to the Washington Post, a Bernie Sanders organizer named Mark Craig shouted the expletives in question.

And according to another Washington Post reporter, Sean Sullivan, wrote that “Mark Craig, 66, disparaged Trump and Hillary Clinton with expletives as he cheered on Sanders during his speech Saturday in Warren, Mich.” Weigel, reached by email, confirmed that he heard Craig shout “Fuck Hillary! Fuck Hillary!”

Have Senator Sanders condemned this outburst from his organizer? Is this the official stance of the Sanders campaign? Is this the reaction Senator Sanders wants to elicit with his speech?
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Hey, No candidate is responsible for EVERY person who comes to their rallies. If people start joining in that chant, then I am sure Bernie would hear it and tell them "no".

don't have to calm down... Do and say what you believe. But we will need a whole lot of energy to win a year from November...So save some of it for then.. and................

But there is no defense against excoriating HRC, once again, by some staffer and no apologies, or sanctions forthcoming. Bernie was bragging in an unbalanced way and it led to her being insulted. So I will speak out against such as she is a former first lady, Senator, and Secretary of State of this country. The Senator has only been that with 3 bills to his credit, two of which was naming post offices. So perspective is needed, but insulting behavior toward HRC is not. That is donald j trump teritory.

Aides for Mrs Clinton, who is fighting a last-ditch battle to keep her hopes of the White House alive, initially tried to brush off the furore, but later denied having anything to do with the distribution of the picture. "I just want to make it very clear that we were not aware of it, the campaign didn't sanction it and don't know anything about it," Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson told reporters. "None of us have seen the email in question."

"fixing" the Democratic party somehow, refighting old primary battles, like other Democrats are the enemy-- even Democrats who aren't running. What's up with that? Is Secy Clinton really the enemy for his campaign? Is Democratic Party policy really the policy he's willing to get granular about?

I'd love to hear more about free college, how to make that work, rather than superdelegate policy intra-party. If he wants to obsess about election stuff, he seems to be more interested in THAT than even other more pressing election issues like, you know, Russian interference.

This just reinforces my sense that we need to move on away from the old intra-party squabbles, forgive the past, and unite to save the g-d country.

And, in being so, Hillary was all that stood between us and the worst piece of shit that ever occupied any office in this country.

I can assume that if this particular Sanders' supporter shouted "Fuck Hillary" and "Fuck Trump" that he most likely voted 3rd party in 2016.

Like too many Sanders supporters (not all, so please don't defend yourself or take offence, but too many) they didn't fuck Hillary by voting 3rd party. They fucked us.

That's why I don't want to be in bed with them. There are far too many that can't be trusted. I will vote for Bernie if he wins the nomination, but if Biden is eliminated, I will work for any other Democrat in the race before BS. Not because of him, but because of too many of his supporters

The point of the opening post is that maybe such excesses need to be avoided this time. And hey maybe you can do your part and be a voice of reason?

Please notice that I am undecided. I really don't care who it is who delivers us from evil. I was actually of similar mind the last time too but guess who rejected me and hurled abuse? And guess who accepted the undecided me without issue?

There is almost no difference in policy so whom do you suppose people like me will side with? A bunch of reckless radicals who would cut off their noses to spite their faces, or a sober progressive intent upon doing justice and attending to the general welfare?

Oh, and call me names like "corporatist" or whatever. That endears me to your cause too.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

300. sanders was treated with kid gloves
Sat Apr 20, 2019, 11:48 PM
Apr 2019

Sanders was a very weak candidate who was never vetted. The Clinton campaign treated Sanders with kid gloves because sanders had no chance in the real world of being the nominee. The press did not vet sanders because sanders was such a weak candidate and it would have been a waste of their time Sanders was not vetted and was in fact treated with kid gloves by the Clinton campaign VOX had a good article on the potential lines of attack that Sanders would be exposed to if Sanders was the nominee. http://www.vox.com/2016/2/3/10903404/gop-campaign-against-sanders One of the more interesting observations in the VOX analysis is the fact that Sanders have been treated with kids gloves compared to what Sanders would face if he was the Democratic nominee. I strongly agree with the VOX's position that the so-called negative attacks against Sander have been mild. Form the article:

I have no interest in litigating any of these attacks here. Like any Democrat elected president in 2016, Sanders wouldn't be able to get much done, but he would block attempts to roll back Obama's accomplishments and have a chance to fill a few Supreme Court vacancies.

When Sanders supporters discuss these attacks, though, they do so in tones of barely contained outrage, as though it is simply disgusting what they have to put up with. Questioning the practical achievability of single-payer health care. Impugning the broad electoral appeal of socialism. Is nothing sacred?

But c'mon. This stuff is patty-cakes compared with the brutalization he would face at the hands of the right in a general election.

His supporters would need to recalibrate their umbrage-o-meters in a serious way.

Sanders was treated with kid gloves by the Clinton campaign because of the amusing over-reactions of the Sanders supporters in the primary process. It appears that you are upset that Hillary Clinton did not use all of the oppo research that was available. Sanders was a weak candidate and would have been destroyed if the oppo research was used.

Never blame yourself, always your opponent. Never admit a mistake, always offer an excuse. And never, ever admit that words can incite your supporters to moments of true ugliness.

The Bernie Bros were a figment of our imagination as I suspect Mark Craig's outburst will be categorized, certainly overblown and in no way attached to anything Bernie Sanders. Because that would besmirch the whole notion of populism where only the leader truly knows the heart and mind of the people.

Deja vu all over again. Tighten your seat belts, it's going to be a rough and nasty ride.

20. WaPo mentioned Craig in "Can Bernie Sanders really win over Trump voters?"
Mon Apr 15, 2019, 04:12 PM
Apr 2019

article. Sounds like he was trying to "warm up" a crowd that was fairly cool to Sanders' attempt to turn their populist anger on Trump for failing them. Playing the Sanders' and Trump' campaigns "burn the witch" cards. They're both extremely worn and singed around the edges from 2016; but given their outstanding success among populists both trumpsters and sanders-ites then, we no doubt will be seeing a lot more of this.

Sorry, Hillary. Let's hope this left-wing trumpsterism appalls and disgusts many millions.

MADISON, Wis. — Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) walked onstage here Friday under a gray sky with occasional specks of snow and launched into a full-on attack against President Trump, labeling him a “pathological liar” in a state that was key to Trump’s victory in 2016.

The blistering attacks on the president reflect Sanders’s developing, and arguably risky, strategy of reaching out to Trump’s voters ... It’s a sharp contrast with other Democratic candidates who are focused on mobilizing Trump opponents. ...

The most striking example of this strategy will play out Monday night when Sanders appears at a town hall meeting hosted by Fox News Channel, an outlet many Democrats detest and one the party has blocked from hosting a debate. Sanders says it’s important to talk to Fox viewers directly and tell them Trump misled them.

Sanders’s approach faces a significant test in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, where many white, working-class voters were drawn to Trump’s fiery populist message in 2016. Sanders argues that he can reclaim these voters by convincing them he can deliver the economic relief they were seeking all along. ...

At a Sanders appearance in Michigan, Christina Fong, who supported Sanders in 2016, said she knows some people who voted for Sanders and then Trump. Sanders can win them back, she said.

“Unfortunately, a lot of times people are really angry, and sometimes they displace that anger,” said Fong, a 54-year-old musician from Grand Rapids. “So they remain angry, which he taps into,” she added, speaking of Sanders. ...

resentful jerks, don't they? Those can come in any color, but in the U.S. only whites, and mostly men, can provide sufficient numbers to get away with it. And, of course, the nature of populist movements makes sure they aren't going to exactly be diverse. Someone like Candace Owens can support Trump all she wants, but she is an outlier from his trumpster populists as much as everyone else.

With the press he's been getting for years Sanders is attracting people with a variety of viewpoints, but he IS a left-wing populist leader. Those drawn to him might want to think about the kind of people they are hanging with and wonder to what purpose.

from Weigel's WaPo article:

'No other candidate for the Democratic nomination still talks about Hillary Clinton, whose surprise defeat was traumatic for millions of Democrats. Poking at the primary wounds can be risky; in Michigan, when Sanders reminded the crowd of his successful fight to end the voting power of “superdelegates,” there was a mix of cheers and boos. Mark Craig, 66, a Sanders organizer in Flint, took a cigar out of his mouth to shout a four-letter expletive about the party’s 2016 nominee.'

"Appears to be" based on what? the fact that a reporter called him an "organizer"? I've been a grassroots organizer for decades for lots of issues and only once was I paid by anyone, and that was $40 a month by the Abalone Alliance back in 1980.

I did some research on this guy and posted it in post #225 below. More checking can/should be done but it certainly "appears to be" the case that this guy has no official connections to the Sanders campaign. Seems to be strictly on his own with his organizing efforts, if in fact he is still does more than just attend a rally.

144. My daughter was on the receiving end of similar treatment by sanders delegates at National Conventio
Mon Apr 15, 2019, 05:48 PM
Apr 2019

I was a Clinton delegate to the national convention and my youngest child came with me as my guest. She got a visitor pass for the first night and got to see Michele Obama speak.

This is normally an once in a life time experience. i had been working on voter protection and other issues for a long time including running war rooms and training poll watchers. sanders sent one very weak text the Sunday night before the convention that sort of asked his delegates to behave (it was a weak text and the Clinton campaign was not happy with it) and then did little or nothing to control his delegates. It was nasty I was there when the sanders delegates booed Congressman John Lewis. The Clinton campaign had a great whipping infrastructure in place and my whip kept me informed as to the various stunts being pulled by the sanders campaign/delegates. I was warned about the planned stunt of booing Congressman John Lewis 30 minutes before it happened by the Clinton campaign whip. According to my whip, sanders was asked to stop this event and declined. That incident will be used against sanders if he runs in 2020.

I was at the Texas delegation breakfast when a group of sanders delegates marched in and demanded that we condemn Clinton and change our votes to sanders. There was a mini-riot after this demand

sanders spoke to the Texas delegation the next morning and his speech was again solely about himself. There was a mini-riot due to his delegates the prior morning and the only thing that sanders talked about was himself. sanders did nothing to deal with the fact that his delegates were out of control and did nothing to try to help Hillary Clinton win the general election.

Finally a group of sanders delegates yelled at my daughter and called her the c-Word because she would not try to get me to change my vote. Again sanders was asked to tell his delegates to behave during the convention and sanders refused

225. I see someone identified as "Msrk Craig" being described as "a Bernie Sanders organizer".
Mon Apr 15, 2019, 08:41 PM
Apr 2019

I went looking for more about him because many of the comments above seem to assume this guy is on the Sander's staff and that he is a paid organizer for Bernie Sanders. I thought that displayed a questionable leap of logic without more supporting evidence. I know plenty of grass roots activists who call themselves "organizers" for some cause that they believe in, but they aren't paid by anyone nor do they have any formal organizational ties. They freelance organize as the spirit moves them.

I found one story from 2016 that described "Mark Craig" as "the founder of a grassroots volunteer group in Michigan that supports Bernie Sanders"
https://www.reddit.com/r/Kossacks_for_Sanders/comments/4bxepm/ryan_hughes_mi_and_pa_bernie_state_director/?depth=2

I found another from 2016 where he was featured in a (Flint Michigan) human interest story

"Flint, Michigan: Where the pipes poison the water and even the nice parts of town are dotted with vacant homes"
"A generation ago, in a different world, Mark Craig, the founder of an organization called 'Flint 4 Bernie,' was living the textbook American dream...
https://nationalpost.com/news/world/flint-michigan

The guy came off in that story as a fervent Sanders supporter, clearly, but self activated and not in anyway coordinating with the Sanders campaign. Here's some insight into him:

"Craig left Flint right out of high school. He spent 22 years in the Navy before leaving to sell boats in Florida. He came back six years ago after Michigan legalized medical marijuana. He grows his own now, for himself and five others. It’s good stuff, he says. Potent. His girlfriend swears by it. It’s good for her arthritis...

...Craig comes from politics, the local kind. His dad was a union organizer. His mom’s a Democratic party lifer. Over the past forty years, Craig has volunteered for every big name Democrat that’s come around. Carter was the best of them, he said. Bill Clinton was the worst.

Craig quit the party recently. He only rejoined to volunteer for Bernie Sanders, the Vermont senator and self-described socialist running Hillary Clinton a close second in Iowa. “I figured it was our one chance to get an honest person elected,” he said. “I’ve had too many Bushes and too many Clintons.”

Every weekend since last spring, Craig has parked the Bern Unit at the Flint farmer’s market. He hands out home-pressed buttons and signs up voters..."

I don't know if it all has changed this time around and now he is the Sanders inner circle as a core paid organizer, but that seems improbable. More likely Craig is still a passionate Sanders supporter doing what he thinks he can to help a politician he believes in.

Screaming anti Hillary Clinton obscenities in a rally crowd does Bernie Sanders no good of course, but nothing suggests that Craig had any significant role in organizing that rally. His outburst was as stupid as it was ugly. I unhesitatingly personally "Condemn it", but there are a lot of passionate people in the world who say and do dumb ass things who I usually don't get a chance to weigh in personally to condemn them.

Calling Mark Craig out is one thing. Implying that he has some important official role in the Sanders campaign is another, and unless someone produces evidence that he does, than in my book he is just some over the top guy who clearly has strong beliefs but lacks some rudimentary political judgement. NOT SOMEONE WORKING FOR BERNIE SANDERS

"I see someone identified as "M(a)rk Craig" being described as "a Bernie Sanders organizer"."

An organizer is someone who organizes - they find and train volunteers, oversee workers, and/or oversee fund-raising, etc. Craig clearly fits the description as noted in your own sources.

Who cares what people in this thread say? Your argument is that he's not an organizer and that sources who claim otherwise are inaccurate. He is *clearly* an organizer. The descriptions of him as such are accurate.

You're trying much too hard to write this guy off as just some random dude who showed up and bleated expletives.

I did not know if he was or wasn't when I started searching, but I saw a lot of people on this thread draw that conclusion without having facts to support it. The distinction matters to me because I agreed with those who said that Sanders should fire the guy if he was on staff, except most of them blew past the "if " part.

My point was always that he is not staff, nor embedded in the Sanders campaign.

I am not writing him off as a random dude. He's a hard core volunteer activist supporter. He is not, however, part of the Sanders campaign and many above thought otherwise

What a way to attract the millions of Clinton voters who they absolutely need to win. If anyone thinks the Clinton base is going to sit back and have insults hurled left and right they would be vastly underestimating the power of our support and the ultimate prize....our vote.

Sanders has also shown no public desire to confer with Clinton, who retains the affection of many Democrats. Many Clinton allies have remained icy toward Sanders, with some openly lambasting him in media interviews. Some Sanders allies would like to see a thaw.

“One thing that could be healthy for the Democratic Party to unify is for Senator Sanders and Secretary Clinton to meet and to articulate the common goal of defeating Donald Trump,” said Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), a national co-chair of the Sanders campaign.

There were some flashes of enmity toward Clinton in the crowds that Sanders attracted on a recent swing through Midwestern states where she lost to Trump. They complained that Clinton didn’t campaign there enough, accused her allies of trying to undermine Sanders and, in the case of one man, blurted out a profane insult with her name.
