(108,978 posts)And in 2016, he promised to release multiple years and only released one, under duress.
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/09/us/politics/bernie-sanders-millionaire-net-worth-taxes.html
WASHINGTON Senator Bernie Sanders, whose $18 million fund-raising haul has solidified his status as a front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, said Tuesday that he would release 10 years of tax returns by Tax Day on Monday and acknowledged that he has joined the ranks of the millionaires he has denounced for years.
April 15 is coming, Mr. Sanders, whose refusal to release his full past returns has become an issue in the campaign, said in an interview in his office. We wanted to release 10 years of tax returns. April 15, 2019, will be the 10th year, so I think you will see them.
Told that he was being compared to President Trump, who has refused to release his tax returns, Mr. Sanders got more specific: On the day in the very immediate future, certainly before April 15, we release ours, I hope that Donald Trump will do exactly the same. We are going to release 10 years of our tax returns, and we hope that on that day Donald Trump will do the same.

(24,122 posts)Many here, in HUNDREDS of posts on DOZENS of threads, pushed the false fact that Bernie failed disclose any of his tax returns, when IN FACT, he DID disclose his 2014 tax return... and when this false fact was pointed out and refuted time and time again, it was nonetheless repeated... then, another false fact was concocted over and over again that the submission of Bernie's 2014 tax return information constituted only a SUMMARY PAGE, and, thus, did not include the detailed contents of the return... and when this false fact was also pointed out and refuted repeatedly... you can guess... right! It just went on and on and on.
I can cite you an abundance of other false facts that have been spread about Bernie on a whole host of other subjects... but, if this doesn't convince you, nothing will!!
Anyway, I hope this clarifies things for you. Now watch as those who refuse to acknowledge ANYTHING positive about Bernie twist themselves into pretzels, and try changing the subject, in an attempt to splain away those false facts. Go back and read the threads for yourself if you don't believe me!!

(15,124 posts)not true. I don't recall such a claim, but I certainly don't claim to read all DU posts.
But, as to your second example, while it is true that Bernie eventually disclosed his full 2014 return, he did so only after about 9 months of constant criticism for filing only a summary. And, until today, that was the full extent of his dislosure of his taxes, despite repeated promises. Those are the facts.

(24,122 posts)being manufactured and spread about Bernie. But, just so you know, in defeating those false facts, I acknowledged that Bernie initially filed a 2014 summary tax form, and happily do so again for your satisfaction... because that is an actual fact.
Why would anyone deny something that is so easily refuted? And yet, so many do when it comes to bashing Bernie. Now, if you want to help correct other false facts being leveled against him, that would be most welcome!!

(24,122 posts)you had me goin'...good one!! The laughs on me!!
You know I didn't say I acknowledged IN MY POST #49 that Bernie initially filed a 2014 summary tax form. As I said in my prior post (#59), that acknowledgement was made "IN DEFEATING THOSE FALSE FACTS," which then, obviously, appeared in the dozens of threads I referenced.
That, of course, is why I ADDED the phrase "I HAPPILY DO SO AGAIN," in that prior post, to satisfy your request for that acknowledgment, even though it had NOTHING to do with the false facts we were discussing.
But, then, you already knew that... and nothing I say will apparently satisfy you. That's okay, I now know better.

(15,124 posts)poster repeatedly references "dozens" and even "hundreds" of others' posts to support his claims and then, somehow, just never manages to cite to an actual post, even when challenged, some begin to doubt that poster's reliability and judgment. And, inevitably, some will extend that doubt to the candidate this person is urging everyone to support.
Such posts do not, to my understanding, violate our TOS, but, IMO, they do violate the spirit of this forum and they may color the way some view your favorite, Mr. Sanders.

(1,954 posts)We can't "Negatively call out" posters, which would include linking to a post in a negative context such as this conversation. I've been caught in the same trap, where we can't actually back up claims without breaking the TOS. It's a bit of a Sophie's Choice: Prove accuracy and get hidden for breaking TOS, or be unable to back up your own claim and gain legitimacy.
Anyways, just figured I'd throw that in there. Carry on at your leisure.

However, even to this day that still is not the complete tax return, nor are some of the others released yesterday.
BTW, it's interesting that the contents of the original link to Sanders' 2014 Form 1040 in that The Hill article was changed a couple of years ago and now goes directly to his "contribute" page. Clever.

(24,122 posts)I said Bernie would release all his returns together in one batch, upon filing for the 2018 tax year... just as I predicted, which, of course, wouldn't be good enough for some.
Now, in the interest of full transparency, all candidates need to release the transcripts of all public and/or private speeches they've given, whether paid or unpaid, prior to the first debate.

(18,402 posts)but releasing them is not the story. What they may contain is the story. I am no tax expert, so I will leave that to the experts.
But just opening a random few, I did notice two things:
1. I wish the pages on which they were signed and dated were appended. Are these revised forms or originally filed? Who is the accountant who signed them? Etc.
2. A little thing popped out to me, looking at 2012 and 2014. Numbers reported for 2012 for "unreimbursed meal expenses" were $8,946 (of which you can claim 50%). That's quite a bit, but I figure, he's a senator: he probably has to take a lot of business meetings and entertain people, etc. But then I noticed that the unreimbursed meal expenses for 2014 were ... the same $8,946. What's that about? Is he on the meal plan? Maybe there's an explanation: maybe senators get to claim the food they eat while in Washington as unreimbursed expenses. I'd be surprised, because that's their job, and you don't get to take your daily meals while on your principal job as expenses, or at least the rest of us don't. Only when you have to travel or take people to dinner over business. But it would be unusual to spend the exact same amount, to the penny, in two different years.
Just wondering. Don't really care all that much. Again, I await the experts on such matters.

(18,402 posts)Do you ever call on your candidate to end the divisiveness he sows by criticizing Democratic institutions? (He did so, again, the other day.)
Instead of doing some research or responding to my comments, you just pull the old "question the poster's motives" ploy and then ring the "divisiveness" bell. In other words, you ignore my comments and tell me to shut up, essentially. You might just try ignoring posters' criticisms, because responses like this really just tend to alienate them further. So, so tired of it.

(24,122 posts)Thank you for confirming as much with your non-response response.
BTW, no one is telling you to "shut up" per your accusation... to the contrary, I gave you props by stating quite clearly: "not that your point is unfounded." Yes, you raised a fair point... but, were you being "fair" by applying the same standard and critically examining, in such minutiae, any other candidate's tax returns? Of course you didn't... applying strict standards that only Bernie has to live up to is about as divisive as it gets.

(92,191 posts)SIT is limited to 10K, along with the loss of interest on home equity lines of credit, plus the personal exemption.
Those who will be most likely affected by those changes are those who live in blue states with high property and SIT, and will most likely be the middle class.
Those that gain the most will be highly profitable corporations who will get a 20% cut off those taxes, and increase our deficit without providing much benefit to the citizenry

The party has been fighting for Trump's tax return for over a week, and missing tax returns on our side weakens the congressional dems on this issue. So far as I know, the four women senators and some other candidates have all released 10+ tax returns, now we need to work on the others. Mayor Buttigieg, where are your returns? Rep. Gabbard?
