Bernie Sanders Wins Fourth Daily Kos Straw Poll

Today, Daily Kos Founder and Publisher Markos Moulitsas announced the results of the organization’s fourth presidential straw poll of the 2020 cycle. You can view the straw poll here and check out full 24-hour results here.

“Sen. Bernie Sanders’ announcement this week resulted in a surge of online interest and activism, which helped propel him to his first lead among the Daily Kos community,” said Moulitsas. “This straw poll saw our biggest response rate yet, with over 56,000 progressive activists in just 24 hours making their presidential preferences known. Sanders rocketed from just 13 percent two weeks ago to 44 percent, while Sens. Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren round out the top three with 15 and 10 percent, respectively.”

Daily Kos continues to run these straw polls every two weeks to track the preferences of the millions of progressives we reach every day.

have their browsers set to automatically open the site. The average visit duration and pages per visit are also significantly lower than DU.

However, I don't believe that the results of the poll can be extrapolated from the site membership to the pool of primary voters. I also don't expect the results to change each time the poll is conducted unless a blockbuster event occurs (e.g., arrests, major scandals, health crisis) since it is the same people voting in each poll.

However, that Middlebury Poll, from his home state, may be closer to the truth. Just look at the numbers for candidates at the top of this thread. And I'm seeing the media being very cautious about him this time around. Good catch Cha.

He has name recognition and just like Individual 1 an adoring base, but it couldn't get him elected the last time around and there is huge competition this time, so let's see what we see...

I think the people who engaged did vote, but his name recognition was so low to start that the less engaged people who just caught occasional news shows and only saw the primary from that perspective didn't know him well enough to choose him. This time around, his name recognition is huge so it may well be a very different picture.

But that doesn’t jive with the fact that Bernie could fill an arena anywhere he went. He stired such passions in ppl that, when he lost the primary, it significantly disrupted everything from DU to the DNC in ways that still impact us to this day.

I like Bernie, that his ideals are shaping the public discourse in positive and constructive ways with respect to income inequality, healthcare and education.

That said, the majority of his support base is young, reactivate and superficial. They are all for events, marching and talking but don’t want to commit to anything that may require long term work and focused effort that may require more than a week to do. They can’t even take the time to stand in line to vote.

The best way to beat the man is be the man. That requires actual voting and all the work required after your candidate wins.
