Tim Ryan connects with Iowa voters on weekend trip; Problem is, there weren't very many

DES MOINES, Iowa – If Tim Ryan wants to be president, he needs a moment. Or two. Or three.

If his weekend trip to Iowa is any indication, finding that moment might be a problem.

The Youngstown-area congressman recently launched what seems like a quixotic bid for the presidency. He enters a crowded Democratic field that has plenty of heavyweights who’ve seemingly been campaigning for the chance to challenge Republican President Donald Trump in 2020 for the better part of three years.

Ryan is not in that category. He’s mostly known as the guy who challenged then-House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi – unsuccessfully – for Democratic leader following the 2016 election. A few voters recognized him from some national media appearances.

He is wasting his time and money on an ill-advised ego trip.

The crowd was cordial, but not really enthusiastic.
With a lot to choose from, Ryan did nothing to distinguish himself.

Actually he really lost me when he turned a question about universal health care into a short sermon on people taking care of themselves.
