When State Sen. Todd Taylor got a call from a Massachusetts number, he almost didn't pick up his phone.
He was walking from a meeting to the Senate chambers at the Iowa State Capitol, where he represents Cedar Rapids. But he decided, reluctantly, to answer the call. What he heard wasn't a telemarketer, Taylor said.
"Senator Taylor, this is Senator Warren," the voice on the other end said.
Taylor was not expecting a call from Elizabeth Warren, one of many politicians running for the 2020 Democratic nomination to take on President Donald Trump. He was happy to talk to her about her policies. But he wasn't ready to commit.

There is nothing like hashing out what will be on our platform or not. It was hours of listening and debating with people who were passionate about what being a Democrat means. Sure last election, there were a lot more young people but haven't we been trying to rock the vote for decades?
Oh well, I envy the Iowa voters.

(32,640 posts)Besides, in caucuses, the Party finances and runs the process, instead of the state.
If a party was going to favor a candidate, caucuses would be the place where that would be easiest to influence the results, and the process discourages any delegate who doesn't have time and/or money to take off work and travel.
Primaries are better, IMHO.
