Who Is Andrew Yang and Why Is He Running for President? Wins poll.

by Eli Sanders

Yesterday, the long-shot Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang came in first in our easily-manipulated Slog poll—which is not that big an achievement.

Maybe there was a concerted effort to place Yang at the top of the Democratic heap in our little poll, and maybe it traces back to him or his supporters. If so, well, Donald Trump was allegedly behind the gaming of certain online polls back in 2015 and look where he is now.

Or maybe Yang's big win in our Slog poll is a totally organic manifestation of the true excitement he's already generating among Stranger readers. Either way: Who is this guy?

Yang calls himself a "human-centered capitalist." The modestly wealthy tech entrepreneur sees a rapidly approaching future in which automation takes the jobs of truck drivers, retail workers, fast-food employees, "and on and on through the economy."

that we are seeing at this time are easily-manipulated and not that big of an achievement which is why I took the liberty of editing the original headline to include the poll results.

We're living through the nightmare of an unfit novice taking on the job of the presidency. My hope is that this will forever dash the meme that 'what we need is a businessman running the country, yada, yada.' The government is not a business and as you said, politics is a profession, not a frigging hobby.

So please, let's dump this idea that 'anyone' can do the job or can reconfigure their outside experience-regardless of how successful--to the rigor of Washington DC politics and actually be successful in the uno numero position at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

We need a political powerhouse, someone experienced and thoroughly competent to turn this ship around. No amateurs need apply.

and it was a timely article with respect to the new forum opening on DU.

I posted another thread on Yang last month in the New Hampshire Group about one of the families receiving UBI.

He sounds pretty good! But so does just about anyone else who isn't Trump! I'm listening to Chris Hayes and they're taking about the nutjob who planned to annihilate candidates and journalists - and how Trump likes to incite them at his "rallies..."

Now I just have to figure out who the other guy is...

I think it would make things interesting in a good way. Also, I would hope that it gets his name and ideas out there so that maybe someday he will prove himself in some political office and then maybe run for president again. I'm not sure how I'd feel about him being the nominee in 2020, though. I would rather he spend some time proving himself. Either way, still want to see him in the debates.
