GOP banks on Biden falling in primary

Republicans are banking on former Vice President Joe Biden losing the Democratic presidential primary because they worry he would be the strongest candidate against President Trump in a general election.

Biden is widely expected to enter the 2020 race this week, with several reports suggesting he will make an announcement Wednesday.
The rationale for a Biden candidacy is clear.

His advocates say his blue-collar roots, his cultural familiarity with voters in crucial Midwest states, his experience and his comparatively centrist positions would make him a formidable Trump foe.

Supporters of the president don’t exactly disagree. They just don’t think he will get that far.

“I think Joe Biden is probably more dangerous than any of the others,” said Brad Blakeman, a fervent Trump supporter and a veteran of former President George W. Bush’s White House. “He would be a danger in a general election — and I just don’t see him getting there. He is way too moderate.”

GOP strategist Matt Mackowiak said of Biden, “I really believe he is their strongest candidate, with the possible exception of [Sen.] Kamala Harris, in the general election.”

LOL, there's more than a little "Please don't throw us into that briar patch" to all this GOP opining. A long-time GOP consultant says Biden holds appeal "for guys like me who are center-right"?? Yeah, I'm not buying what they're selling.

I don't think he's a strong presidential candidate at all and he's going to look very unappealing compared to the rest of the field. And his feet end up in his mouth so often that he knows what his shoes taste like.

These are not normal times. We want Biden because he can beat trump. Nothing in Biden's past compares with trump. Foreign leaders are begging him to run. He can beat trump. He won't take trump's crap. trump does not want to run against Biden. trump needs Pennsylvania. Biden can win Pennsylvania. He was born and raised in Pennsylvania. Biden has a close relationship with blue collar workers. They will support him because they know how much trump has screwed him. I would love to see Biden run with a strong progressive Dem woman (Harris?). She would then be positioned to become the first woman President! (remember we have not had a woman VP yet either)

He has been on the wrong side of history way too many times to ever deserve being our nominee. Iraq, Patriot Act, Glass-Steagall, student debt, etc. The list goes on and on.

I want to vote for someone who can inspire me and that I can be fully confident can get wonderful things accomplished for this country, not someone whose only real argument for his campaign is that he's supposedly the only person who can beat an orange asshole. That's not a strong motivator to get people to vote.

Fear that we will lose without him. That's not very motivating.

I don't think it's very convincing either. Certainly not for me, at least.
