I find this strange:

Bernie Sanders has strong support throughout the party and with progressives around the country, including my own children. Who can explain the various levels of support shown in the graphic above?
Curious. 🤔

(32,017 posts)Sorry if the link didnt work for you, but it shows Sanders (on DU) polling at 8%, whereas he is polling much higher, nationally. It strikes me as odd that he would poll so poorly on DU, and I am looking for any possible explanation.
Thank you for the reply.

...Bernie Sanders has just 8%.
The answer is in your question: DEMOCRATIC Underground.
Bernie is not a Democrat. He only declares that distinction during Democratic Presidential Primary season. Last year, when he won the Democratic nomination for US Senator in Vermont, he declined and ran as an Independent. You would think, knowing that he would run in 2019-2020 for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States, that the politically sound thing to do would be to accept the Democratic nomination in 2018 for US Senator. No, not Bernie. He wants the party nomination that I belong to for President, but is ashamed to be called a Democrat. I want a Democrat to serve as President.
Now, don't get me wrong. I'll vote for Bernie over Trump. However, I know full well that I'll be voting for an Independent, not a Democrat.

(3,259 posts)Harris, Warren, and Buttigieg are getting a little more support here than at the national level. I think you are overlooking the "progressive" aspect of it. I don't see how it can be claimed that Sanders is to the left of Warren. The aditional support for her alone makes up the difference. I would argue that progressives on DU that are elevating Warren simply like "A Plan." IOW, more savvy.
There is also the aspect of being forced to identify on a forum where you must try to communicate with others. That alone might make some want to stay undecided.

(7,113 posts)...it's equally hypocritical to use the party's debate microphones and primary/caucus election infrastructure and DNC databases and seats at the convention if he feels so negatively about the Democratic Party.

(1,663 posts)I can not speak for the DU community as a whole. However, I can add my 2 cents.
My take is that folks on this platform have a different perspective and connection to the democratic party. Many are activists that have been long invested in the well being and future of the party. Some are wary about populists, in general, due to our nation's history (populists using the "us vs. them" model)). Others continue to find the Senator, fairly or not, to be divisive and have expressed a fear that he will not be able to unite the party. Also, it doesn't help the senator when he runs against other democrats in the sate of Vermont. I'm sure there are many other reasons. This is just my take on the matter.

(11,330 posts)and we really desperately need someone who can be effective right out of the gate.
Sanders is a demogogue, he's not a deep thinker, he's not a planner, he's not someone who builds alliances with his peers, he seems to be largely incapable of taking advice, he seems stuck in the ideas he chose 50 years ago and he's disconnected from the reality of most people in the country, and even when its pointed out to him he can't seem to adjust.
Other than those problems, he's better than Trump.

(1,532 posts)Sanders hiring David Sirota, Brihana Joy Gray, Cornel West and Nina Turner was infuriating -- they all campaigned for Jill Stein.
It puts Sanders' allegiance to the party in serious question.

(30 posts)I agree that this site isnt representative of Democratic voters.
I suspect that at least some of the Sanders supporters are at other online sites that they consider more welcoming to progressives.
If DU would like to grow a more representative Democratic membership, they might consider posting more favorable threads about progressives, and interacting more positively with the members who are progressive.
