Sanders Town Hall participants doxxed, harassed by ALLEGED supporters after asking questions.

At a CNN town hall meeting Monday night, Sanders was asked many tough questions, including ones about his never-released tax returns, his stance on the ongoing crisis in Venezuela, and whether or not he supports reparations for African-Americans. One of the toughest, asked by a female college student, concerned the recently-revealed sexual harassment scandals that occurred during his last presidential campaign in 2016 — as well as his response to them, when he said on Anderson Cooper 360 that while said events transpired, he was “a little bit busy running around the country trying to be elected president.”

“How can a voter like me [a woman of color] feel confident in your ability to represent the party?” she asked. Sanders replied that his response to Cooper was “taken out of context” (even though she had quoted it to him word for word), and told moderator Wolf Blitzer that he took the issue “very seriously.”

The next day, Sanders fan “Progressive Blacksmith” (handle ProgBlacksmith1) tweeted information about this questioner to his followers.

This activity is called “Doxxing,” which Merriam-Webster defines, in part, as “publicly identify[ing] or publish[ing] private information…especially as a form of punishment or revenge.”

When Sanders senior advisor Josh Orton told him that his actions were inappropriate, he responded meekly, “There seem to be conflicting opinions on this, so everyone is entitled to it.”

“Well, I’m expressing mine. It’s not helpful,” Orton replied.

“Okay, cool…I don’t agree with you. Not sure what else you want me to say,” ProgBlacksmith1 said.

But that didn’t stop him from harassing other women, such as writer Leah McElrath, who criticized his actions and found herself attacked by other Sanders supporters for doing so.

(snip)

However, when Paste started digging into some of the other names of town hall participants scrolling across CNN, they found some interesting omissions.

(snip)

The back and forth continues, with people from the Sanders camp pointing out that you can’t really “dox” someone whose name has already been published on CNN by sharing that person’s public LinkedIn occupation.

In the end, CNN finally contacted Paste’s reporter and admitted that it could have been more forthcoming.

“Though we said at the beginning of the Town Hall that the audience was made up of Democrats and Independents, we should have more fully identified any political affiliations,” reads a CNN statement.

https://www.inquisitr.com/5317794/cnn-accused-of-stacking-audience-with-democratic-party-operatives-at-bernie-sanders-town-hall/

The controversy had nothing to do with the questions being asked but with a lack of disclosure on CNN's part.

My belief is that CNN as has been the habit with the corporate media conglomerates didn't want questions from ordinary citizens regarding policies which could adversely threaten their bottom line so much as political questions from political operatives.

Because those taking stock in such polls tend to ignore the fact that if Bernie had been the nominee, the actions of everyone involved would have been different.

You think the Republicans wouldn't have made hay of the rape essay, among other things, and made "socialism" the new "radical Islamic terrorism"?

You think they wouldn't have pointed to him being in congress for over 20 years and getting little of note done--in essence, being even more part of the "establishment" than Hillary?

And that's just a few of the things we KNOW ABOUT. Who's to say that the RNC, Trump's campaign, the FBI, Russia, etc. wouldn't have something(s) else up their sleeves, ready to deploy?

And that's just THE OPPOSITION. You think there wouldn't be backlash from Hillary supporters, or even Hillary herself, after losing the nomination twice? Imagine PUMA 2.0, very likely egged on by the same forces behind the supposedly mythical "Bernie bros."

All of these, or even just a few of them, could conceivably give Trump the win--possibly even a popular vote loss as well.

Is unlikely to the point of being practically impossible. She would almost certainly, as she did with Obama, give full-throated support to the campaign.

But her doing that does not preclude a fringe group—who, certainly, she would forcefully and vocally condemn—from providing grudging support at best and opposition at worst.

And seriously. Just about everyone knows about Trump’s failed businesses. What would Bernie do differently to make them the negative that puts him over the top?

He repeatedly refuses to be interviewed by Vermont media - unless he gets to approve the questions beforehand, and in addition we have several examples of him walking out on interviews when asked questions he doesn't like. And when he cannot avoid it, it is veeeery convenient that his supporters attack those who ask questions he finds uncomfortable in such a manner that many will be hesitant to ask similarly inconvenient questions in a public setting again in this campaign. There's probably no collusion between the campaign, the candidate and these supporters, but there's no forceful action against this harassment either, only milquetoast appeals to refrain from it.

Though Sanders understands the problem, his solutions leave something to be desired. The way the senator sees it, the job of a journalist is merely to transcribe his diatribes unchallenged and broadcast his sermons unfiltered.

“He would not be happy with anything that did not basically publish his press release in its entirety — word for word, quote for quote,” said Graff, who spent nearly three decades reporting in Vermont for the AP.

Back when Sanders held regular news conferences in Vermont — it’s been a few years — he typically refused to answer questions unrelated to his chosen topic of the day. That’s problematic for local reporters, who rarely have the opportunity to quiz the members of Congress they cover without spokespeople running interference.

At a 1985 forum on the media, the late Vermont political columnist Peter Freyne complained to Sanders, then the mayor of Burlington, that he had reneged on his promise to hold regular press conferences, pointing out that “When asked a question you don’t want to answer, you leave the room.”

And there's no reason to think that the majority of Americans will vote for someone who's determined to brand himself as a "socialist" -- like the Soviet Socialist Republic and the National Socialist German Workers Party -- or today, the dictator in Venezuela. Words matter, and for most Americans, that word contains too much baggage. We'd be far better off to use a term like "FDR Democrats," if that's what we meant.

In any case, the primaries won't be won by someone with only 43%. If he can't get a majority, then the superdelegates will be voting. And they won't view Bernie any more favorably than last time.

Some serious irony there when the entire base of this issue was Sanders not noticing the harassment within his own campaign, giving a statement that he was too busy running around trying to get elected as reason, then when a student questions him, and... summarily gets harassed for said harassment, it’s a senior advisor, and not BS himself that steps up to the plate to address the harasser.

.......Curious - to say the least.

2008 would have been ideal to start the convo up.. hell, 2016 would have been nice..

Minorities are always wanted at the ballot box.. but not in the conversation - look at our DACA brothers & sisters.. what happened to that issue last year? Kicked the can down the road again..

quite well.. I don't think he "stumbled" at all.. as much as some want to characterize it in that fashion..

I look forward to the debates at this point.. all this back and forth has gotten tedious at this point, and all the candidates haven't even announced yet..

There is a good reason that the "reparations convo," as you flippantly put it, has been "introduced into the mix." And it has nothing to do with Bernie's problem with minorities. In 2019, after two years of Trump, white people can no longer delude ourselves into thinking that Obama's election meant America had largely moved beyond serious race problems.

They stated at the outset that the crowd were mostly Democrats and independents, which is to be expected. The outrage is that Democrats dared ask the Senator questions, which is just baffling, to be honest. For crying out loud, the Senator is running for the DEMOCRATIC nomination - he is asking Democratic voters to vote for him in the primaries. It should be extremely obvious that Democrats, you know the ones who are assessing whether they want him to be the party's nominee, would ask him questions about himself and his positions.

CNN has the responsibility to make sure the questions aren't too far-out and attacking, but other than that? It's free exposure for the Senator. He and his supporters should be happy he got this chance. And I didn't see any outrage when avowed Bernie supporters asked Kamala Harris questions at her town hall - not from the Bernie crowd, nor from Harris, her campaign or her supporters. I wonder why.

One question that's plain BS did Not "handle well"..

These BS supporters blew it.. they're just bringing more attention to BS not being able to handle questions.

True words. Politicians that cater to populist basically are catering to people that are stuffed to their gills with grievances and who often see themselves as victims of an unseen conspiracy that cuts across swaths of society, with each swath in on the conspiracy to keep them down.
