Bernie Sanders' 2020 campaign unveils app to increase its voter database

CHICAGO — Sen. Bernie Sanders flaunted his ground operation Saturday with what he called the “largest distributed day of action ever in a presidential campaign” and announced a new online organizing tool called BERN.

“We need to put together the strongest grassroots movement in the history of politics,” Sanders said in a pre-recorded video played for more than 4,700 attendees at a volunteer-drive organizing kickoff events nationwide. “And we’re off to a good start!”

The app allows everyday supporters to contribute to the campaign’s voter database by logging names and background information of anyone from a family member to a stranger met at a bus stop. It matches each name to a voter record before noting their level of support, priority issue and even union membership.

"Many voices will attempt to diminish what we’re building here together and argue that our movement has run its course,” national organizing director Claire Sandberg told organizers in the campaign video. “But the reality is,” Sandberg continued, “we grow larger every day.”

He's asking his followers to add the names, phone numbers, and email addresses of other people to his app.

Haven't heard or read ONE WORD yet about asking those people's permission first.

to the point where Glenn Fuckin' Greenwald's news site is not only pimping a data collection tool, he's adding insult to injury by saying we're all too dumb to understand the genius behind it...

Extra credit for that "reporter" pretty much repeating all of the Bernie Campaign talking points about the app verbatim -- How 'bout that "fearless, intrepid journalism?" Might as well be a press release...

You pay a fee and agree to share your data with the winner after the primary is over.

Looks like someone isn't playing nice in the sandbox again.

My guess is he isn't using the VAN because he would need to share his data after the primary concludes.

Barack Obama didn't do it in 2008 and some people made a good deal of money taking the data from his database and merging it into the democratic party database when he won the nomination. If he won, he would have to do the same thing.

This is also prone to some serious data integrity issue. Most of the people entering data into the system will be supporters. Some will be from Moscow.
