So Sanders is asking his followers to feed other people's names, phone numbers & email

addresses into his voter database?

And apparently without asking those people's permission?

I don't see anything wrong with asking people who show up for rallies for such information -- their own names and contact information.

I don't like seeing volunteers asked to provide such information on other people whose phone numbers and email addresses they happen to know.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

I don't want to think that anyone I know and like would be so inconsiderate of me.

And I don't want to think that anyone I know and like would be so gullible or brainwashed as to think this app was a good idea.

I'm used to being irked if databases are sold by companies I've done business with in some way. I can either assume I didn't read fine print carefully enough, or those companies were unethical.

I think it's grotesque that Sanders is doing something here that will result in anger and feelings of betrayal between friends and family members as his most deluded followers think this is a good idea and set up those close to them for what they might see as harassment.

I have relatives who are very careful not to give out cell phone #s in any way that can lead to robocalls on them -- they'll provide a landline # if there's a chance of that. I hope to God they don't have a Bernie bro in the family who'll dutifully hand over that cell phone number to the Sanders campaign.

Here’s an article about Dan Wagner and the Obama 2012 campaign’s ‘big data’ tech:

After the voters returned Obama to office for a second term, his campaign became celebrated for its use of technology—much of it developed by an unusual team of coders and engineers—that redefined how individuals could use the Web, social media, and smartphones to participate in the political process. A mobile app allowed a canvasser to download and return walk sheets without ever entering a campaign office; a Web platform called Dashboard gamified volunteer activity by ranking the most active supporters; and “targeted sharing” protocols mined an Obama backer’s Facebook network in search of friends the campaign wanted to register, mobilize, or persuade.

Watch the other serious campaigns follow suit with their own apps. Then will come the crickets. Some lead, others follow.

At least if you're asking a volunteer for friends info they have the option of thinking 'yeah, I know this person, they'll be receptive to emails and such', whereas with social media data mining of their accounts ... in an automated way ... they don't have that control and ability to use their judgment.

Here’s another one:

The Obama operation (code-named “Narwhal” for the Arctic whale with a long spiral tusk) merged “information collected from pollsters, fundraisers, field workers and consumer databases as well as social-media and mobile contacts with the main Democratic voter files in the swing states” into a single massive database, Time reported.

will not be my friend any longer. I consider such behavior to be toxic. I contact campaigns that interest me. I do not want any more unsolicited emails, robocalls, or any other contacts from candidates. I get hundreds of them already during campaign season.

So, if you know my information, please do not give it to Bernie Sanders or any other politician. If you do, you'll find yourself on Ignore here or on any other internet venue.

The amount of crap that comes my way is already overwhelming. I do not support Bernie Sanders during the primaries. On the off chance that he ends up as the Democratic nominee, he'll get my vote, but none of my money.
