My thoughts over the past week

Just a few things that have come to mind.
Heard Trump say that "some on the other side want terrorists to vote". Some? Will he be using every statement by every candidate to paint the entire Democratic Party with his smear? Yes he will!
I am also sad to hear that Biden has chosen not to offer Anita Hill a formal apology. Reminds me that I often think he owes me one for Thomas being on the court. Come on Joe, I really want to like you.
Still with Mayor Pete, waiting for him to knock on out of the park for the home team.
A very sad note. The terrorist attack on yet another house of worship is being branded as a hate crime. While it is a crime of hatred, it is clearly a right wing terrorism tactic. The entire nation needs to address this as such and quit with the subtle talking points that defuse this reality.
The real race is a year away. By that time we may be living a very different world. Let us try our best to expound upon our virtues and create a consensus of values and ideas we wish to reflect. Then find a candidate that fulfills these hopes.
I hope to, within myself, find the path I think will lead us out of this morass and then look for the candidate that will work for my ideals.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

4. The Republicans outmaneuvered him. Collegiality has always been important to him.

Collegiality is a polite way to say "Democrats have no spine".
I refuse to deal with the devil.
He may have known how the final vote would come down, and that he was being outmaneuvered. He still had the moral authority to do what was right. Just calling the additional witnesses could have changed history.

10. Believe me, I agree. I think his proclivity for going along to get along

with his Republican colleagues when he was in the Senate is a big giant waving red flag. It's evident to everyone by now—or should be!—that Republicans don't compromise. "Working across the aisle" is something Democrats are supposed to do. Not them.

judicial committee (Biden) have that kind of control over other dem voters ? Thomas was approved by the narrowest margin for approval in more than a century
How does that say no spine?

Labeling yesterday's shooting as a hate crime was correct IMO no branding needed

3. I'm in a state with a late primary. I'll have fewer candidates to choose from.

Which is easier in a way, but sad if the candidate I think will work for my ideals isn't among them. Still, the early primaries are a good indicator of who has the stamina and the staying power. It's a long haul to Nov 2020.

5. We need to bend the will of our candidates to our ideals

It is like watching a lump of clay turn into a concrete object.
We need to focus on what we want and not so much on who we agree with.
The early primaries should be a way to steer the victor toward our chosen ideals. I am sure by the time the later primaries come about, for you and I, we will have tested our team with fire and ice.

7. Well, sure. It will be good to see the kinds of questions candidates get asked at town halls.

And how well they do when they're not in a scripted environment, when they have to be spontaneous. Any candidates who falls back on platitudes & generalities, well, I think that's going to get old real fast.

The candidates would enter into a national 'town hall tour". Rather than fighting individually for funds they would pool resources and actually go out to find out what the people want. After a period of time I am sure the cream would rise to the top.
