It's all going to come down to Super Tuesday for him, again. It's where he pretty much lost it in 2016.

If Super Tuesday coalesces around a single (or two) candidates, it could very well be the deciding factor this time too. It should certainly winnow the field, if it hasn't happened already.

Identity politics may be coming back to bite itself in the bum. With the out sized media emphasis on this paradigm, I don't think the 'scandals' will end with Booker's private school and pharma coziness (neither of which benefit 'his' community) or Harris' social justice record (which might account for her performance out of the gate). Look what 'super predators' did to Clinton.

On a slightly different note, if Biden runs, are we going to heap up on 'old white men'?

It's a dangerous purity test that can be turned on just about anyone.

I agree with you on Super Tuesday though. It will winnow the field.

Identity politics talks about purity tests based on accidents of birth. Real progressives talked about purity tests based on policy.
I believe policy affects race/religion/sexual orientation
I believe race/religion/sexual orientation chooses policy that supports them.

What's going on seems to be an alignment against progressives based largely on media smears and untruths (ie. throwing of chairs) and carefully selected media shots (rally pics).

Very little of the criticism to date has been about policy. Although I see that changing a bit. Now they just use blanket 'socialism' as the boogie man instead of 'rainbows and unicorns' - which, because of the general shift in platforms of candidates running, is no longer a viable weapon, or they'd have to dump on the whole party.

I can see sanders doing poorly in southern primaries. Time will tell.

In Texas, Beto and Biden will both do very well. Warren and Beto will take a great deal of the limited support that sanders had in Texas. Again, I can see sanders not breaking 15% in a large number of districtts in Texas and not getting any delegates in these disticts

the 2016 General election. I just don't see Hillary voters ( general election voters including me) voting for him in a primary. All of us would vote for him in a general election but not a primary. Also, I just don't believe he can win a general. He will be painted as a big spending socialist...I just don't see it happening. I want someone who can win a primary but more importantly a general election. And I want a Democratic president. Sen. In 2016, Sanders was *the* alternative to Clinton, who many had been conditioned to hate. He won't have that luxury in 2020. And I don't see him doing considerably better among POC and non-millennial women.

Many still haven't accepted the reality that Sanders was done after Super Tuesday in 2016. Some seem to think that one must be mathematically eliminated in order to be considered done.

36. Two sets of Trump voters may be flippable
Mon Mar 4, 2019, 03:58 PM
Mar 2019

This research identifies 5 types of Trump voters. Two are ripe for the picking.

The Five Types of Trump Voters

Key Findings

This analysis finds five unique clusters of Trump voters: American Preservationists (20%), Staunch Conservatives (31%), Anti-Elites (19%), Free Marketeers (25%), and the Disengaged (5%)

There is no such thing as “one kind of Trump voter” who voted for him for one single reason. Many voted with enthusiasm for Trump while others held their noses and voted against Hillary Clinton.

Trump voters hold very different views on a wide variety of issues including immigration, race, American identity, moral traditionalism, trade, and economics.

Four issues distinguish Trump voters from non-Trump voters: attitudes toward Hillary Clinton, evaluations of the economy, views about illegal immigration, and views about Muslim immigration.

I think the groups called Anti-Elites and Disengaged can be won over by the right candidate.

The anti-elites and the disengaged (but voted) amount to about a quarter of Trump's support in 2016. That's 15 million votes or so.

But, hell, there's room at the party for everybody: C'mon, non-voters, join the fun!
