Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIn Biden's launch Video, He Did Something No Other Candidate Did
He went directly to what the main problem is right now - Donald J. Trump. He skipped talking about individual issues because, in this upcoming election, there is one issue that rises above all the others and is the most immediate - Donald J. Trump.
Joe Biden is about replacing Donald J. Trump as President. He'll get to the other stuff very shortly, but he has identified the primary issue facing the United States at this time - Donald J. Trump.
He pulled no punches, called Trump out, and pledged to beat him, defeat him, and correct all of the harm Trump has done.
What other issue is as important in 2020?
Joe Biden will address all of the other issues soon. You'll hear about his plans. You'll hear about his accomplishments, too. But, he will continue to remind us what the overriding issue for 2020 is - Donald J. Trump.
Nobody else has made that issue their top priority. I'm listening to the man who has identified the central concern that faces the United States of America - Donald J. Trump.
VOTE HIM OUT!

(47,486 posts)won't mean anything if we don't get rid of Trump and take back the senate. We desperately need a 2nd Blue Wave throughout the country. Then we will see change.

(12,344 posts)People voted for him for a reason. Too many people. It's too many people whether Clinton was robbed or not, whether the Russians made a difference or not, whether they were ignoramuses or not. Too many people dissatisfied with the direction of the country in 2016, who are still dissatisfied today.
My view is that the current system is not working for them. It wasn't working, so they voted to blow it up. If we don't lead with a solution, if we act like Trump is our biggest problem, who's to say they won't vote to blow it up some more?

(146,317 posts)Please. A lot of people are sorry they voted for Donald J. Trump. We can get their votes.
A lot of people have been hurt badly by Trump. We can get their votes.
Right now, the election is the main issue. Who can win? Who can beat Donald Trump? All of the candidates are Democrats, more or less. All will support the Democratic platform and more. But which one can beat Donald Trump and is identifying that as a major problem in this country.
Biden will get to all those other issues. But, he identified the primary goal of this election very clearly in his opening video. Nobody else has done anything like that. He'll tell you his positions on the important issues, starting this week. But, he already told you what his goal is. Is that not our immediate goal, too?
Biden is directly on point!

(24,300 posts)is a damn close second. The Supreme Court will be lost to us for generations if we don't. Any Democratic President will not be able to appoint anyone with the current Senate leadership. Cabinet appointments will also be difficult.

(146,317 posts)to vote for President, we will take back the Senate. Turnout will be everything in 2020.
We can regain control of the Senate, increase our majority in the House, and elect a Democratic President all at the same time. How many voters turn out will make the difference.
We need a Democratic Nominee who has broad appeal and who will bring people out of their homes to make sure that Donald Trump gets no more time in the White House.
I think Joe Biden is the one who can do that the very best. That's why I'm supporting him. I can't see any of the other candidates having as broad an appeal.

(24,300 posts)And I think an impeachment that forces republican Senators to vote to not remove Trump from office will be great for voter turnout on our side.

(146,317 posts)Enough people are concerned enough about Trump to ensure a large turnout, I think, either way. Of course, if Democrats are fighting with each other about the nomination, that won't help.

(12,344 posts)Did we need we need to say our goal was to defeat Romney/McCain/Bush/Dole... I know, I know this time is different. But the difference I see is different from what you see. You see...a fluke perhaps? Trump happened to win, he sucks, so let's just get him out and clean things ups, then we'll be back on track.
But I don't see that at all. Trump is a symptom not the disease. Our goal should be to treat the disease not the symptom. Treating symptoms does nothing. Treating the disease resolves the symptoms.
Biden Identified the symptom, but we all already knew that. I want a doctor who can treat the disease.

(761 posts)Beating Trump requires a plan to get the votes. So far he has fallen short and pointing out and promising to work on them is the answer. Attacking him without presenting the solution guarantees four more for Trump. He can and will spin any attack. The votes he can lose are the ones he got from "Lots of good paying jobs" and "Make America Great Again".

Freedom will be out the window along with healthcare, a living wage, environmental health, social security, Medicare and whatever else there is to be concerned about.

(761 posts)A desire to beat Trump is shared by everybody running. But it is going to take driving home issues in a positive way to beat Trump. Living wage and health care and education are what Trump promised and failed in. Those can beat Trump.

(146,317 posts)get black women on his side. It should have been a no-brainer, but he just punted and missed his opportunity.
Bernie has strong appeal to some voters, but not to a broad spectrum of voters. I believe he will not even come close to being the Democratic nominee. He might win a primary or two, but no more than that, I think. I'm not seeing him as the nominee at all.
Of course it's a long way to the first primary and caucus and then on to Super Tuesday. We'll know how Bernie does when those happen, won't we?
I think he came as close as he ever will in 2016. This election, I think he drops out during the primaries, or goes third party. He does have several Green Party folks high on his staff, so he might end up doing that. I sure hope not...

(146,317 posts)I didn't say it was "all about Trump." I said that was the most immediate and crucial issue in 2020. Then I said that he'd be talking about issues shortly, like starting tomorrow. His launch, though, was about defeating Trump. He's the only one I know of who has made that an important issue.

(6,044 posts)Are you counting on Trump being the the Republican candidate?
We were not prepared for push back in 2010 after passage of the ACA.
2010 cost us re-apportionment and we were gerrymandered all over the country.
We lost over 1000 Democratic seats in a relatively short period of time.
We were not prepared for Russian involvement in 2016-most voters had no inkling of what was occurring.
It is still occurring and most candidates are not even factoring it in; in fact some operatives are even discounting it- I think in an attempt to Fram the situation in the way most favorable to their desired candidate.
It is 8 months before the first primary season vote 10 months to Super Tuesday primary vote.
Russia and Republican Party are not likely to back a sure loser-as so many are projecting Trump to be.
