Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and former Vice President Joe Biden are leading the field of Democratic presidential candidates and likely candidates in New Hampshire, according to a new poll.
The University of New Hampshire poll published Thursday shows Sanders atop the Democratic field with the support of 26 percent of likely Democratic primary voters in New Hampshire, followed by Biden at 22 percent.
Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) sits in third and has the support of 10 percent of voters, while 7 percent of voters prefer Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and 5 percent favor former Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-Texas).
New Hampshire's presidential primary, which is less than a year away, will be the second major nominating contest in the Democratic presidential primaries. The poll's findings were based on interviews with 240 likely Democratic primary voters in New Hampshire between Feb. 18 and Feb. 26. The poll has a margin of error of 6.3 percentage points.

(1,157 posts)leading the pack in a Northeastern state that is over 90% white?
No surprise, indeed. The only real surprise is that Kamala Harris is third, not Elizabeth Warren...

(22,913 posts)She is among those who I am most open to supporting. But it is ultimately a losing proposition to focus on race as the foremost driver of who can win the majority of Democratic votes in primaries, let alone a general election. Obama did very well with voters of all races in Democratic primaries and caucuses in 2008. He started out by winning Iowa of all white places. Democrats, unlike Republicans, have generally show a willingness to get behind and support non white candidates in predominantly white states. We are not yet a majority minority nation. Harris will need substantial white support as well as support from people of color. I think she has the capacity to win that type of support if she remains as strong a campaigner as she has shown herself to be so far.

constituents who have their own bigotries. And, they have their own
preferences/value system too.
