Nearly half of black women say they would support former Vice President Joe Biden in the Democratic presidential primary, according to a new Morning Consult poll.
According to the poll, 47 percent of black women said Biden is their top choice for the nominee, giving him a wide lead in the demographic over his Democratic rivals.
Another 18 percent of black women said Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is their top choice and 9 percent said they back Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.).
Biden also has the most support among white women, with 36 percent of white women naming him as their top choice, the poll found.
The poll's results are based on surveys with a sample of 15,475 registered voters who indicated they may participate in their state's Democratic primary or caucus. The surveys were conducted from April 22-28 and the poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 1 percentage point.

(25,183 posts)I don't see Sen. Harris showing well in SC, maybe fourth place. Unless Biden somehow makes a big stumble, he's likely to get the most votes in SC, where the black folks I've spoken with see him as part of the successful Obama administration.

(25,183 posts)if things get ugly between the two of them during the campaign process, then Biden might well want to tap Abrams for the VP slot, if she stays out of the Presidential race. The notion of picking an also-ran as a VP is much more the exception than the rule in politics at this level. It pretty much never happens once you get down to only three or four people running for the nomination.

(10,078 posts)Whoever wins the nomination needs to use Reagans tactic of belittling the other guy (there he goes again). Responses of just shaking the head and saying things like hes off his meds again or hes off the rails again would seriously get under Trumps skin. Its saying that you cant even respond to this guy, hes just too cuckoo.

(6,446 posts)I am actually a little surprised that black women prefer Bernie to Kamala at 2:1. And REALLY surprised at how high the support is for Joe. Seriously. Why do 67% of black women prefer an old white man for the job? Not really rofl worthy... tbh i think it's kinda sad.

Women in general at 38% comes in third.
This is a rather remarkable and promising set of results for Joe Biden, I think.
