Quixote1818's JournalOther than Bloomberg having a lot of money, I don't understand why anyone would pick him over Biden
or another moderate? Biden has a fraction of the baggage and some really great plans he has put forward and a ton of experience. I wish Bloomberg had just sunk his money into helping the Dems rather than jumping in to this. He will probably sink Biden who had a shot at a comeback if he was to do well in SC. That seems to be evaporating with Bloomberg stealing his thunder.
I guess some felt Biden wasn't performing strong enough and so Bloomberg was the backup quarterback? I don't get it. I like Biden a billion times better than stop and frisk Bloomberg. And I honestly gave Bloomberg a look a couple of weeks ago before determining he was pretty much my last choice.
That being said, I don't think Bloomberg winning over Bernie in a brokered convention will fracture the party that much this year. Trump is so extreme I think even some of the most ardent Sanders supporters would realize Trump needs to be stopped. It would be our job to talk sanity into them. Saying that as a Sanders supporter.
Bloomberg may be paving the way for Sanders to win by splitting the moderate vote even more
He doesn't pull much from Sanders and he is completely caving Biden's numbers as you can see from the graph here:

Trump's Approval Rating Is Underwater In 8 Key Battleground States He Won In 2016
MON, JAN 13TH, 2020 BY SEAN COLAROSSI
Donald Trumps approval rating is underwater in a handful of key battleground states that he cant afford to lose if he wants another four years in the White House.
According to new data released by Civiqs on Monday, Trumps approval rating is upside down in eight states he won in 2016 that are absolutely must-win for him in 2020: Michigan (-10), Pennsylvania (-6), Wisconsin (-6), Arizona (-6), Florida (-4), Georgia (-4), Iowa (-3) and North Carolina (-1).
In other states like Alaska, Texas, Ohio and South Carolina, the presidents approval rating is in positive territory, but the fact that it is split so closely should have the Trump campaign concerned.
These numbers will make it difficult for Trump to win a second term
There are still ten months of campaigning until Americans get to choose their next president, and a lot can change. Democrats still have to choose their nominee.
But approval ratings this low in states he carried in 2016 when Trump barely won the Electoral College will make it difficult for the president to win a second term.
If these numbers hold and Trump ends up losing the states where Civiqs says his approval rating is underwater, then it would be a Democratic landslide in 2020.

As a Sander supporter, any Sanders supporter who will not unite behind any other Democrat
if Sanders doesn't get the nomination, really has no business being on DU, which is dedicated to getting Democrats elected. I think I speak for the vast majority of Sanders supporters here that we don't care for the disrupters or as may like to call "Bernie Bros" and we don't want to be associated with them. In another thread I talked about how I had to block another Sanders supporter on Facebook back in 2016 because she kept bashing Hillary after Sanders came up short. Her posts were driving me crazy and she was upset that I voted for Hillary a month early. These are fringe, nutty people who are out of their minds if they think another four years of Trump is better than the very fine candidates we have competing for the nomination. If that is who you are I don't want anything to do with you and I would recommend all of us Sanders folks who mean well, get in their face on Twitter or wherever and tell them they are not helping and making us who are dedicated to the party look bad.
I do want to point out that while I am back in the undecided column (I recently went back to undecided since it looked like Warren was struggling) Sanders is probably my first choice now but for the meantime I will wait for a while to see what unfolds before my primary arrives.
To the supporters of Biden, Klobuchar, Warren, Buttigieg, Stayer, Bloomberg etc. I got your back big time down the road if your candidate gets the nomination.
Federal probe into Giuliani is reportedly 'moving forward'
Are the officials investigating Giuliani alerting the public in case Attorney General Bill Barr tries to pull the plug on the probe?
eb. 17, 2020, 10:48 AM MST
By Steve Benen
It was just last weekend when Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) divulged that the Justice Department has "created a process" to receive information from Rudy Giuliani. It was an unsettling revelation for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that Donald Trump's personal lawyer has spent months chasing ghosts and shadows in eastern Europe, while cavorting with figures of dubious reliability.
Nevertheless, Attorney General Bill Barr soon after confirmed Graham's version of events was accurate: the Justice Department, Barr acknowledged, established an "intake process" through which Giuliani could peddle dirt on the Bidens directly to federal law enforcement.
It was against this backdrop that the Washington Post reported over the weekend that Rudy Giuliani is still facing a federal criminal investigation -- and it was just two weeks ago when federal prosecutors in New York "contacted witnesses and sought to collect additional documents" related to the probe.

Rival Democrats Accuse Bloomberg Of Trying To 'Buy' Election
Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, Amy Klobuchar, Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg all targeted billionaire Mike Bloomberg.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) With the Nevada caucuses less than a week away, Democratic presidential candidates campaigning Sunday were fixated on a rival who wasnt contesting the state.
Snip:
He thinks he can buy this election, Sanders said of the former New York mayor at a rally in Carson City, Nevada. Well, Ive got news for Mr. Bloomberg the American people are sick and tired of billionaires buying elections!
Snip:
Klobuchar, speaking on CBS Face the Nation, accused Bloomberg of avoiding scrutiny by blanketing the airwaves and sidestepping debates or tough televised interviews.
I think he cannot hide behind the airwaves and the money, she said. I think he has to come on the shows. And I personally think he should be on the debate stage.
Snip:
Biden, speaking on NBCs Meet the Press, suggested that Bloomberg will face increased scrutiny as the race continues, pointing to his record on issues relating to race.
$60 billion can buy you a lot of advertising, but it cant erase your record, he said.
Snip:
Buttigieg likened Bloomberg to Trump when asked about reports that Bloomberg made sexist comments towards women and fostered a culture of sexism at his company.
I think hes going to have to answer for that and speak to it, Buttigieg said.

This video by the Atlantic back in 2016 before the General Election seemed to nail why 4.4 million
Obama voters stayed home in 2016. Keep in mind the election had not occured yet when the video was made. He suggested those voters were already a bit disillusioned that Republicans stopped so many of Obama's policies and that Sanders was the only one they thought might make a difference. Sure, they were naive and should have gotten their asses out to vote! However, what he is suggesting is that we need a Sanders or Obama to get them back out again.
I should mention that he said if Sanders does win and can't get anything done they may stop voting again.

538: Registered Voters Who Stayed Home Probably Cost Clinton The Election
Registered voters who didnt vote on Election Day in November were more Democratic-leaning than the registered voters who turned out, according to a post-election poll from SurveyMonkey, shared with FiveThirtyEight. In fact, Donald Trump probably would have lost to Hillary Clinton had Republican- and Democratic-leaning registered voters cast ballots at equal rates.
Election-year polls understandably focus on likely voters. Then, after the election, the attention turns to actual voters, mainly using exit polls. But getting good data on Americans who didnt vote is more difficult. Thats why the SurveyMonkey poll, which interviewed about 100,000 registered voters just after Election Day, including more than 3,600 registered voters who didnt vote, is so useful.1 Its still just one poll, and so its findings arent gospel, but with such a big sample we can drill down to subgroups and measure the demographic makeup of nonvoters to an extent we couldnt with a smaller dataset.
Lets look first at the most newsworthy finding: Registered voters who identified as Democrats and independents were more likely than Republicans to stay home.

NYT: Hate Negative Political Ads? This Is the Primary for You
So it turns out Dems are being pretty nice to one another this year compared to past years. From discussions on DU you would think it was just the opposite:
Democrats are avoiding using ads to attack each other, as they target voters intent on defeating President Trump.
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/05/us/politics/democratic-ads-2020-negative.html
Since the DP Forum started, has any DU post or posts moved you from one candidate to another?
Just curious. Thanks
