.....if it was doing that to machines, what was it doing to humans?

Flint water probe may unleash flood of findings on mistakes

....................

One of the most telling moments in this saga was when General Motors disconnected from the Flint River because the water was ruining its machinery, leaving some to wonder — if it was doing that to machines, what was it doing to humans?

Critics contend that red flag alone should have motivated the administration to redouble its due diligence to get to the bottom of this.

Flint River is one of the filthiest rivers in Michigan. Over the years, it has housed raw sewage, tires, old refrigerators — which residents have attempted to sift out — and lead. In spite of this, officials declared it safe to drink in April 2014, when they switched the supply to the tainted river. Shortly after the April switch, residents complained the water emitted a foul odor and was cloudy in appearance, but local and state officials insisted the water was safe. In spite of these assurances, in January 2015, MLive reported the State Department of Environmental Quality had “issued a notice of violation of the Safe Drinking Water Act for maximum contaminant levels for trihalomethanes — or TTHM — a group of four chemicals that are formed as a byproduct of disinfecting water.” These chemical byproducts are linked to cancer and other diseases, and presented a separate issue from the lead. The water was so dirty that in October 2014, General Motors announced it would no longer use treated Flint River water at its engine plant out of fears it would cause corrosion.

‘Donald Trump totally thinks I’m a Muslim’: Atheist hammers Trump on proposed Muslim ban

“What would your reaction be if Hillary Clinton said the same thing about Christian immigrants following the Planned Parenthood shooting in Colorado,” Mehta implored. “Which non-white Christian group will you want to ban next? Do you realize how much other countries are making fun of us? Do you realize how much other countries are horrified by us?”

Mehta also asked a key question. How would anyone know if someone trying to enter the U.S. is Muslim or not? He wanted to know how Trump’s immigration officials would know the difference between Muslims and people of other faiths, or even how they’d know whether people were being truthful.

He also pointed out that Trump’s anti-Muslim rhetoric only bolsters terrorist groups like ISIS by alienating Muslim people and fomenting toxic rhetoric.

“Is Muslim just code for brown people?” Mehta asked. “Am I a Muslim? Donald Trump totally thinks I’m a Muslim.”

How can we continue to sing America The Beautiful?

The Song No Longer Rings True

The sky still blue and spacious
our fields grow golden grains
snow capped mountains
are still viewed in placid reflecting pools
fruits and nuts are upon our trees
but as for brotherhood between the seas
the good has become harder to find
our light has dimmed

They came seeking relief from religious oppression
only to convert and pervert what they found
their freedom meant
the abolishment of the ways of
the new world they had come to
with violence and death
taking more land
there was no self control
no liberty
no real law other than
might made right
for the new people did not honor their god
and were deserving of death

These were not heroes
they did not liberate the peoples of this new land
they showed no mercy
there was nothing noble or divine in their treatment
not of the peoples
nor of the lands that they found

They had a dream
of great alabaster cities
built them
but today
these are filled with empty dilapidated buildings
the homeless
and the violence that built them
tears run down the cheeks
of mothers and fathers losing their sons and daughters
tears are shed by the victims
of the religious extremism that was seeded in those early times

How can we continue to sing America The Beautiful?

Huckabee Says Voters Will Abandon GOP

Huckabee Says Voters Will Abandon GOP

Mike Huckabee said that the Republican Party is at risk of losing its members if lawmakers continue to make decisions that ignore their values, The Hill reports.

Said Huckabee: “You sense it on the campaign trail. One of the things you see is a seething rage… The Republicans folded. That’s why people in the Republican Party are just bolting for the door.”

Would Syrian Refugee Baby Jesus be allowed to immigrate to the US? - By Juan Cole

So the toddler Jesus got to be a Nazarene because of having been a Syrian refugee twice,
once from Herod the Great in Egypt, and once from Archelaus in Judah.

The toddler Syrian refugee would later say,

“31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, 33 and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. 34 Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? 38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 39 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ 40 And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’ ”

Maybe when they were refugees in Egypt, Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus were hungry and thirsty, or lacked proper clothing, having had to flee their homeland abruptly. Maybe Jesus grew up hearing those stories about the Syrian refugees.

There are politicians arguing that Syrian refugees should not be admitted to the United States, even though the US has taken in 750,000 refugees since 2001, and only a handful have gotten into security-related trouble.

Jeb Bush said that only Christian Syrian refugees should be let in.

These American, Christian politicians would not have admitted the holy family when they fled Herod the Great. They were Jews and that was before Christianity. So they were non-Christian Syrian refugees. Out of luck.
