3. Key Bridge

My family and I visited Fort McHenry last summer from where the Key Bridge is faintly visible across the Patasaco. Not having that collapsed section and knowing that the bridge won't be functional (perhaps for an indeterminate period of time) and that there was loss of life is truly devistating.

Driving northsouth along the eastside i95/i695 corridor will be an absolute nightmare. Rush hour traffic is nightmarish anyway, but this tragedy will make it unbearable!!

That ship from Singapore is one of those supper massive cargo ships (3 to 4 football fields long) that come to the port of Baltimore. Our port along with Norfolk's are the only East Coast ports that have deep enough channels that can handle them. They are navigated via the Panama Canal, eliminating the need to stop at deep channel West Coast ports. That category of ships can be diverted to Norfolk.

When the Key Bridge opened in 1977 ships of that size did not exist.

The other cargo and cruise ships waiting out in the Chesapeake Bay will have to be diverted to Philly, New Jersey, New York or Boston.
