An insanity defense only helps with ducking the criminal consequences of his actions, while leaving him powerless to get even.

I also don't think Trump's ego could withstand exiting the public stage on the sour note of being declared incompetent to stand trial, then having to fade into oblivion.

Of course, Trump could end up with an insanity defense because he isn't in enough control anymore to avoid it, but that wouldn't be a matter of him making the choice.
