(31 posts)I have always been fascinated by people who become cult members. After watching innumerable documentaries on cults, from Jonestown, to those I have never heard of (and there are SO many), I always ask myself, how could they not see this leader was crazy? And when presented with evidence, they double down on defending obvious abhorrent behavior and doctrines. When asked to commit or believe moral transgressions or law, they willfully comply. These people cannot be reasoned with. I liken magats to these cult members. For the same people who would be ripe for any cult, like former cult member Ginnie Thomas, Trumpism is just a new iteration. There is no critical thinking in these people. They want someone to follow and to tell them what to do. It also feeds in to their fundamental feelings of entitlement, superiority, and grievance. It gives them a sense of belonging and purpose. And humans are capable of unbelievable inhumanity. I recommend watching The Zone of Interest which I believe is an accurate depiction of how normal people can become numb to evil and passively complicit.
