You can be just as trapped, you just won't have physical restraints trapping you. For example, if you can't get a job, you aren't going to be able to do a vast array of things.
As an added bonus, when you complain about it, people just tell you to "get over it". When there's actual bars, people will believe you when you say you're trapped.
