13. The post-Sandy Hook debacle was a political miscalculation on the part of the Dems

Yes there was near universal support for universal background checks. But instead of introducing a bill to pass just that, Democratic leaders in Congress introduced every gun control law they have failed to pass in the past - including an AWB. They felt that they had enough public support to steamroll the NRA and if that failed, at least they could force the Republicans to vote against gun control.

That plane got blown to hell when Harry Reid decided that protecting the Democratic majority in the Senate was more important - the Democratic controlled Senate is where the post Sandy Hook gun control bills died.

That was fantastic! elias49 Jun 2014 #1

Of course. Whether something is threatening has to do with the behavior. aikoaiko Jun 2014 #48
And walking around, carrying a firearm, is also threatening. Apparently, you don't see that. Fortinbras Armstrong Jun 2014 #56
