do some volunteering - there you'll meet people who are willing to volunteer
maybe do some meetup, book club, dinner group, ...
i am sure you would like having some friends. you are a different person than you used to be and you could see how it goes. certainly you can meet a lot of different people than you used to know. and just say no to loaning money. maybe they will be not the closest friendships ever, but close enough to do you a favor in the future - why couldn't that be in your future?

hospitals want to 'hand off" the patient to someone. They don't even take your word

I can't believe the doctor or medical facility doesn't have a service to pickup/return patients.

I know of 2 people who have explained this to doctors and both times they were kept overnight
