Another victory for incrementalism: private prisons [View all]

After about 6 years of department-level work to line this up, DoJ has announced its break from private prisons.

Contracts will not be renewed, and new contracts will not be sought.

This is the kind of quiet, heads-down, nose-to-the-grindstone shit that makes me love this administration so much.

It did not solve the problem overnight. Even with this announcement there will still be Federal prisoners in private prisons for another 5 years or so. But this was a definite, un-arguably positive change this administration has brought about.

Thanks, Obama.
