They want to force Comey to defend his recommendation not to charge Hillary with anything, but to do that, Comey will also be defending Clinton. Think of the optics... the head of the FBI will be doubling down on why there is no reason to charge Clinton with anything.

These Republicans aren't too bright. In their overweening zeal to persecute Hillary for being smarter than they are in playing the game of cutthroat politics, they aren't doing any long term thinking or considering the consequences of what will happen when their so called hearing turns into a Hillary for President ad.
